I’ve been wondering if LVMPD still uses any VHF or Conventional type channels for rural areas such as Sandy Valley, Primm, Jean, Goodsprings, Moapa, searchlight, cal nev ari, Indian Springs etc and if they have channels that can communicate with other agencies such as Nye county, CHP, San Bernardino, Mohave county, AZDPS. etc. I have a friend in law enforcement with LVMPD and his radio does not have any rural area channels on it. Was curious if anyone knew anything about this topic and if they even simulcast digital to analog channels.

They do not use any of those channels. The only radios that have Nye county, CHP, San Bernardino, Mohave county, AZDPS are the air units that have almost all channels and systems programmed in them. You will occasionally hear training taking place on the 8call and 8tac channels.

I only hear rural traffic on the Admin channel. K9 and the air unit still chit chat on the VHF simplex channels usually talking smack about patrol.

Which Admin channel? The encrypted one of analog one?
Sorry for the lack of clarification. The encrypted UHF one. I've had all the VHF Metro channels scanning in the background for years now and I think I've only heard those two and the specialty traffic frequency in use.

No worries. I had no clue they had a encrypted UHF channel.

I saw the specialty traffic guys working a wreck on Jones last week and they had obvious analog radios, but it didn’t sound like they were using a repeater.

UHF as in P25 700-800 Mhz UHF. And I guess to answer your initial question, I still see their Rural trucks rolling around with VHF whips on the roof. Every now and again I'll hear Rural CCFD request, or get sent to a call with Metro and I'll hear the rural officer get on CCFD's VHF channels to advise them of ETA's and the like. But as far as the majority of Metros VHF system is pretty silent other than what's already been discussed here. Of course, I don't live in what would be considered rural so they might actually still be using the VHF somewhere out in the sticks, out of range.

When I heard them a few months back on the VHF analog system and it sounded like they were on a repeater. They even had a dispatcher marking them in route and checking if they were code 4. Could have been on simplex when you saw them.

If you looked-up their LVMPD licenses, you'd see they've got sites in those areas for their 700MHz TRS. LVMPD units have the SNACC system programmed-in to their UHF radios, so they could communicate with NCSO via SNACC, and ideally they've got the ability to utilize the new P25/II NSRS.
