The Lynchburg Fire Department just received new radios today. Here is the article found in Flashpoint, the fire departments newsletter regarding the radios...

The department recently received 90 new portable radios from MA/Com. The new radios and accessories are being prepared for distribution in the next few weeks. The new 7100 series radios all have displays to indicate the channel selected by the user. This will make them easier to operate and will eliminate the need to remember and select the talk group number. They are also waterproof and should prove to be more conducive to the firefighting environment. Each radio will also be distributed with a leather case that should be used when possible to help protect it. A portable will be placed on each apparatus, which should improve communications and safety when operating on the emergency scene.

It's about time...I'll try to find a picture to attach of the old ones compared to the new ones.
New on top...The one on the bottom is kinda like them, but they are grey, and not 900Mhz.

Lynchburg, VA - The Lynchburg Fire Department has a new addition that'll come in handy when they're out saving lives. It's a brand new technical rescue vehicle, equipped specifically for rescue operations. And this one is the biggest in their fleet.

The department says they've outgrown their old truck and need more room to organize gear.

Chris Adams, Lynchburg Fire Dept. - "It's going to aid us on the team and then with the capacity of us being able to get to the incident. We have to have 10 people there within 10 minutes."

The new rig cost around $100,000. They say it'll take another $500 to get it fully equipped and they need to learn to drive it before it hits the streets.

Sounds sweet! I'll head out in a couple of weeks and try to get a pic!
