• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

The other choice was a competing M/A-COM radio system.

It used different technology than the P25, but was substantially cheaper at about $5 million, including 15 years of maintenance.

But Young said the county didn't like the fact it wouldn't own the M/A-COM system.

You seem to be having fun posting articles that you interpret as anti-M/A-COM.

This one looks like it has nothing to do with M/A-COM (other than they were the competition) and had everything to do with a screwed up procurement.

1) Bid the project before having funding.
2) Did not structure the bids "apples to apples" (Motorola seems to be a sale, and M/A-COM seems to be a lease).
3) Structured the bid to allow the vendor to mix acquisition costs and maintenance costs.
4) Did not structure the bid for evaluation of all costs.
4) Contracted before having funding.

Why all the negativity brey? On the surface it looks like you are just bitter with macom for manufacturing a system that you can not monitor with out the proper equpment (open sky radio for the PA system). I really don't see a need to bad mouth any system or radio protocol. There are pros and cons to every system and no manufacturer can meet the needs of all users. Thats why there are laws requireing governments to go thru some type of procurement process.

I have nothing "for" or "against" Ma/Com. I just post articles that I come across. If it seems negative thats because most of the articles sent to me or that I find have a negative tone.
I have posted "positive" info when I come across it.

Well maybe your sources are a bit biased.

As an example: pulling one quote from one slide out of a whole presentation on another topic, as you did earlier.

And this article which is much more about a poor procurement than M/A-COM at all.
