• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Motorola radius, M1225. I don’t have any antennas, but I do have microphones I bought what is supposed to be a functional frequency counter off of eBay and when I key the microphone, nothing happens I stuck a little piece of wire in the antenna port still nothing on frequency counter. Trying to figure out what frequency this is transmitting on and then also find out what kind of antenna I need to put on my truck. Also, it seems to power up like what I would think is normal and no matter what button I push it seems to only go from channel 1 to channel 2. Thanks for any help.

The model number shows it as VHF 150-174 MHz.
It’s possible that the radio is programmed for receive only. In any case, keying the mic without an antenna, or at least a dummy load is a good way to ruin it.
Your best option is to obtain the M1225 CPS and buy a programming cable to read the radio. The 4.0 version is Windows compatible and will run on Windows 7 with a 32 bit machine. Buy an FTDI ribless programming cable from Bluemax49er. The cheap ones on Amazon or EBay are hit or miss sometimes.

It will also run on Windows 10 32 bit such as LTSC 2019.

Can someone tell me what part number the antenna would be? I have more than one of these radios, so I’m tempted to just get the proper antennas and see if they talk to each other..

Proper antenna will depend on what frequency you are using and what sort of installation.

Also, keep in mind that you do need an FCC license to transmit with these radios. You don't know what frequency they are on, and you could possibly interfere with other legit users (even if you can't hear them). There are no "free" frequencies in the VHF band that you can use these radios on.

There is no specific part number for the antenna. You need a VHF antenna with a mini UHF connector.
Also, unless you have a license for the frequency those radios operate on, you shouldn’t use them like CB radios.

Sounds like I need to focus on how to get the software. I’m assuming that a Motorola dealer is not going to do this for a reasonable fee.

No, a dealer (if they still have that software) would charge more to program it than the radio is worth.
The software is widely available for that model. A Google search should take you right to it. Until the rules of this site change, the exchange of CPS through RR is not allowed. However, the M1225 series has long been discontinued. It’s an easy find. Like low hanging fruit.
