To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi all,

I am in the process of building a GMRS repeater. This repeater is utilized by two Motorola Radius M1225LS radios with an ID-O-Matic controller. I am having issues with the receiver not keying up the transmitter. I have set up the receivers 8 pin set to COR low. I am not quite sure why the transmitter is not keying up. Both radios work just fine without any issues.

Any advice or tips is greatly appreciated!
Thank you.

Thanks for the responses. I’m just starting out with this controller so I’m still learning about how it works.

From the research I have done, the receive radio pin 8 needs to be set to low, which I did.

The id-o-Matic will light up when the receive radio is powered on and when I transmit on the receive frequency the controller will receive the audio from the receiver and flash amber showing that it is active. But for some reason the transmitter will not key up once it is receiving.

Verify first the your ID-O-Matic is configured for Active Low transmit. If it is then take a clip lead and ground the PTT line of the M1225 used for the transmitter. It should key-up. If it doesn't, then you need to take a look at your codeplug options. If it does key and you have confirmed the controller goes into an active COR state then it quite likely the keying transistor driving the PTT line is bad or was installed incorrectly if assembled from a kit.

I have two M1225's set up as a repeater with the same setup. I also found that I could not get CSQ (carrier squelch) to work, but as soon as I added a PL tone to the RX it worked just fine! I also have 2 more M1225's I wanted to set up as a crossband repeater. Added PL tones and still could not get it to work. Even though the software is set to pin 8 being low, I cannot get an actual reading of pin going low on the radio itself.

Check the pin 8 with a voltmeter. I am researching this problem and have found info regarding this issue. Search e-Bay for "RA-0." There is extensive writing on pin 8 in the green letters regarding this. If you find the problem, let me know....
