Anyone familiar with the M2 eggbeater sattilite antennas? I notice DX engineering has a 2/440 meter package for a pretty hefty price. Just wondering how this would work compared to a yagi or similar.
Thanks

I use the M2 eggbeaters because less moving parts equal fewer problems. Another reason is I picked them up used for $125 with the cross section bar and all vs. $500. I use LMR-400 coaxial cables and a preamplifier on the 70cm side is helpful. Still, my hand held Elk Log Periodic works better than the M2 eggbeaters in gain, but not in convenience.

A Yagi is a definite gain improvement for TX and RX over an eggbeater. You just need to steer it, or have a computer program steer it for you. M2 has the Leo Pack for a little more and you will get significantly more gain. You could mount them at a 15 - 20 degree angle and just use one rotor. If the satellite is overhead it is pretty strong, but further away the set angle should work fine. You could get a full AZ/EL kit if you want.

You can also spend less and just use two Yagi's or a log periodic at a fixed angle on one rotor.

Am I happy with the Eggbeaters? Yes, for $125 I am. Will I experiment with the Elk at a fixed angle on a rotor, yes I will.

M2 Eggbeaters got us the Satellite Bonus at our Field Day site in June. You have to wait and catch the right pass.
