Saturday I was at the Police & Fire Collector show in Madison Heights. Well a friend of mine on the test project for the OPEN SKY brought his prep along. Its a decent looking prep (Portable) radio. It seems like a well built radio. It is about the size of a XTS3000 with the full features of the 5000 radio.

The voice quality is real clear, twice as clear as that of the Motorola series radios. The only things I don't like is that fact that it is real expensive to install the firmware to be compatable with the MPSCS system when they are out of the area.

I also just found out that Farmington only has access to 1 tower. So if they should leave the tower range which isn't that far they have ZERO comms at their access.

That is a bad situation for the FPD Officers. They will have access to all the towers when the system opens up completely.

So all in all it's a nice radio but the price of the radio and the system thus far isn't worth it and I still believe the citizens are being taken for a ride.

Oh and that bastage Firenet won a door prize at the show  . We heard the guy on the PA (No name to be said to protect the innocent lol) and I'm like WTF you won something. Arrrrrrrrrg Just my luck 2 years in a row and Im standing next to someone I know who wins.

Be very careful! It sounds as if M/A-COM has begun to assimilate you! :p

Not for the price man. I don't like the concept of the whole thing or the horrid ride they have taken the people of Oakland County for.

Then again thats why all the rich people live there :p

You should have hung around longer at the show. Then again my buddy didn't show up until 12:30 - 1:00.

I managed to get all but 2 of the college police and security patches that I didn't already have for Michigan. I also go Larry Nevers book and met his wife who is a very nice lady. We chatted for almost a hour.

NETFIRE got to see the M/A COM prep ;) then he goes and wins a prize :roll :D

Yeah... The show seemed a little smaller this year than last year. I am still on the hunt for my 'decal' also. Lots of people had them in their collection but no one was looking to sell.

What Frequencies?

I'll be in Farmington over the weekend, what frequencies would I use for their PD and FD (Clemis / Oakland TRS). Also, can anyone help out with unit numbers?

Thanks in advance.

Nope the Open Sky Platform was made specifically to be unheard by the public.

I doubt it will ever be monitorable with the way it is set up.
