I was talking to a Hanover County deputy yesterday and he said that he was told their new MA/Com radios will be able to work with the Richmond/Henrico/Chesterfield TRS. Is this true or was he mislead by the idea that it could pick up EDACS ProVoice?

It would probably depend on what flavor radio he was talking about and how it was programmed.

The new MA-COM user radios are compatible with the Motorola trunking systems as long as they are using the 9600 baud data rate on the control channels. This was proved to the Homeland Security boys in the test that was run on the new Motorola 9600 baud trunking system in Phoenix earlier this year.

Hanover's radio system is EDACS Standard. The Richmond/Henrico/Chesterfield system is a Motorola Astro-25 3600 baud system. I doubt their compatability.

Actually, Hanover County is in the Process of updating its radio system to a digital system and It will be able to talk to all surrounding localities. It will cost approximatley $26,000,000. They are in the process of getting rid of the old mp-d's and mp-a's and replacing them all. They are also moving the Communications faclility from the Sherrifs office to the Taylor Complex.

So will they have to purchase new Motorola Astro 25 radios? Or was the deputy right in saying that the MA/Coms can talk on the new system?

I am aware that they are compatable with Project 25 systems. But the system they want to tie into is a 3600 baud astro system.

If it is 3600 it is not a project 25 system a p25 system is 9600 baud.
