• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Ma/Com is deploying Pa's 800 Mhz system.

A memo obtained by 7NEWS crystallizes that lack of satisfaction. In the memo, a sergeant writes, "Somebody make me king please. I would have M/A Com either put a tech on site 24-7 and be on the road 40 hours a week or tell them to back their truck up and take this crap away."

And New York State is planning to spend a mere couple of bilion (that's with a B) on the same type of system.

BUT!!!!

The PA System was integrated by the State, and in NY they are buying an integrated system.

(We will have to wait to see if it makes any real difference).

If i remember reading that praticular article correctly it was describing and EDACS with CAI. That is actually a very typical complaint from any agency that switches from analog to digital. Just think about what your digital cell phone sounds like in a fringe area. What alot of places dont realize is most of the time P25 out performs analog, with exceptions in high multipath areas. There is also a perception to overcome is by replacing existing equipment you improve coverage. New equipment doesnt change the laws pf physics. I would be willing to be dollars to pesos that that praticular agency has coverage problems with the digital in the same places they had it with the analog.

Can someone reference anything talking about EDACS with CAI?

Yes CAI in the field equipment, but that has NOTHING to do with teh use of CAI on EDACS channels.

i suggest you read article that was refrenced in the first post. Thats where it was commming from. The article is a typical description of an agency switching from analog to digital. 99 times out of 100 when it is a M/A Com system it is a CAI over EDACS. Very few places are installing new ProVoice or AEGIS systems becasue they do not qualify for Homeland Security funding.

I don't see that referenced in the article at all.

Maybe I am not reading between the lines right?

I have yet to hear of CAI on EDACS (This includes at M/A-COM training sessions).

The praticular type of system wasnt refrenced in the article, other than to say M/A Com was installing it. My overall point was that just because someone is complaining the system doenst work, does not mean it actually doesnt work. The truth is always between the lines someplace. When a City replaces an analog system, which has dead spots, with a digital system, without adding sites, that will have dead spots too. That scenerio is a typical case, which leads to articles such as that one, and a few others that appear now and then.

As much as some of us on here like to poke fun at manufacturers who get bad press, alot of it is really undeserved. Now I firmly believe the NY system will be screwed up and not work to the expectations to which it has been billed. I am blaming NY State for that. It is already way behind schedule becasue the state has dragged its feet. NY is the same state which has radios in the state police cars where the firmware is so old they cannot turn on the 12.5KHz filters. It is a software problem not hardware, some of the hardware is leess than 2 years old. Gotta love good Ol NY

if you are looking for CAI over EDACS check out the state of Florida. M/A Com has it in their p25ip suite of products. up until early this year they could run CAI over EDACS along with AEGIS and Provoice. Early this year M/A Com added P25 control. Read the slick sheets on the web or call them up. Ive had to do that before

I think you are reading too much into what they say.

I have not seen any information saying that M/A-COM does CAI on EDACS.

If you can point to a link or some liturature that says otherwise, I would love to know about it.

Either way, I will ask the next time I talk to M/A-COM.

Well if that is the source then he is reading between teh lines wrong.

"EDACS radios can be equipped with P25 CAI" is speaking to the field equipment, not the infrastructure.

N_Jay, check out the press release for this system. It appears that the City of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County communications system will indeed use CAI over EDACS.

Lindsay

I bet dollars to doughnuts that the person writing it got it wrong.

Notice it says "The backbone of the communications system will include an 800MHz EDACS IP digital communications network with Project 25 Common Air Interface . . "

The "Network" will probabnly tie in P25 conventional stations.

I could be wrong, but I don't think so.

Next M/A-COM training is in July.

well, the press release doesn't make a single mention of ProVoice - and I've heard through the grapevine that MA/COM is really pursing the P25 CAI.

MA/COM has always touted ProVoice -- soo.....

sounds like the local governments required bidders to provide APCO25 compliant equipment. MACOM won a bid in the DC area a few months ago that required P25. They want to push Provoice to lock in future sales, but will bid P25 if it is required.
