Are you hearing this on network first? "These shoes where black and brown" sounds like something from a pre school book.

It is testing, and I think the phrases have different phonetic tones.

Almost sounds like they are reading a book on-the-air.

"These shoes were black and brown."
"They took the cross town bus."
"Don't throw trash on the street."
The above messages were devised by DVSI for testing of their P25 vocoder.
The messages when encoded and decoded test and verify various aspects of
the DVSI vocoder. The vocoder attempts to eliminate constant sounds such as
a 1000 Hz test tone. For that reason you can't do something like a SINAD
receiver test (just like you can't do 2 tone paging). Instead you use the
digital voice to determine the sensitivity of a P25 IMBE receiver. The
messages get old real soon. When I go home at night, it's like having a
song stuck in your head.
I haven't heard convicts and pecans. DVSI may have developed those for
later versions of the vocoder.

Crazy

Heard the same thing on my Pro-97 ...

Sold my Pro-96 a year ago.

Picked up a Pro-97 today because of the very nice price of $149

This is one of the first things I heard after I programmed my scanner. I almost think I progged JeffCO into a bank by accident (didn't mean to prog state DTRS) and heard it while I was testing the profile ... must've happened upon a broadcasting freq?

Now that I recall, I actually remember hearing it on several banks on my newly programmed, pro-97 ... so must have been a stargate etc channel? Stuff changes too fast man!
I'll try and read up tomorrow ... been away awhile.
