Does anyone know of a software to use with macs for Uniden scanners.
Do you have dumb terminal software? (If not, there should be tons of freeware out there.) If so, say "ID" (with a carriage return) to the scanner. It should return "IDN" or "IDF", depending on whether ID is on or off.epbernstein said:I am trying to use Virtual PC with the Keyspan USB-Serial converter. I can use the scanner remote control feature of the Uniden software, but can't read from or write to the scanner. Very wierd...
Oops, I missed that. (I took 'read or write' to mean 'talk to'.) Using the same program? That is weird. Exactly what happens when you write to the scanner. Any error messages?epbernstein said:But why would the remote control feature work if the scanner and the computer weren't talking to each other?
The last time I did anything with a Mac, Red Ryder was the best one and Macs came in 128k versions - so I have no idea what's out there. And which dumb terminal freeware program would you recommend?

If that were the case I'd never have been able to update my firmware. I currently have 18 apps running on this computer, and it's running light at the moment. In fact, I was streaming my Pro-95 when I did the upgrade, so I had Winamp, Icecast. Metagenerator and my VB IDE running, at the very least.monroem said:Reason for this is the Uniden software requires that nothing else be running (even in the background) when using the software. Is it an OSX driver, an XP driver or something else entirely? (Or were you talking about 2 different drivers?)epbernstein said:I've tried running the USB-Serial driver through both OSX and XP, without luck...

Al42 said:That's a problem when running an emulator. I have no idea which OS requires the driver, and whether the Keyspan drivers will work with a Mac emulating a PC - although a few people have posted that they use the Keyspan adapter on a PC with no problem..
That, and the Belkin, are two others that people have reported to have no problems with - as long as they're using the latest drivers. (I know from experience that the originally supplied Belkin driver doesn't work very well.)epbernstein said:Someone mentioned using a Radio Shack adapter. I may need to get one to see if it works...
