If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello everyone,
I have a Macom P7100 VHF radio and would like to program it to the amateur band.
Can I use the cable for Ericsson M-RK?
How to enter programming mode?

I don't believe so, the P7100 uses an RS232 programming cable; if I recall correctly, the M-RK required use of the TQ3370 interface box (GE's version of a Motorola RIB).

Programming mode is entered by holding down the three side buttons and powering up the radio. Display should show "Program."

The P7100 used a different IDC connector than the M-RK.
With RPM, should be just a matter of programming your amateur frequencies..
Called 3 finger salute- hold all 3 side buttons and power up the radio.
It should show "PROGRAM" in the display, OR all black pixels until connected with RPM.

My M-RK cable came from RF guys and was RS232 to the IDC. I presume it had the level translator in the IDC. No RIB box.

Hello,
Thanks for the many replies :)
So I don't need any level converter (MAX232)?

My setup for the P7100 is a USB to RS232 adapter cable. (FTDI genuine)
The programming cable plugs into that.

Sadly, the source for the programming cable is drying up, but won't break the bank if you locate one.

t so happens that I have a computer with RS232, so I program most of my devices :)
I am interested in which pins of the UDC connector to connect to?
I'm guessing you mean RXD, TXD, CTS and GND?

The UDC on the 7100 is TTL so direct serial to UDC will not work. The factory serial cable has a level conversion circuit (basically MAX232) in a pod built midway into the cable.

My cable from RF guys doesn't have any pod. No translator in the IDC.
Might be enough room for a tiny Max232 in the RS232 connector.
Cable number is 33176.

Thank you for all the information. I will try. I have ProGrammer R18. Is this program suitable?
The P7100 is a nice radio :)

Yeah, they were pretty solid. My biggest gripe was the audio quality wasn't very good without a decent speaker mic. ProGrammer R18 should work fine. The PN for the Harris cable is RPM 113 2472/35 but as Merlin pointed out the RF Guys cables also work well. Good luck and enjoy the radio.

I use RPM r14C05 with my radios. It is good for older radios like P700 but only the 'RU' models and newer including my XG-100s. Runs on windows 10 well, probably 11

The RF-guys cable has a TTL converter in it. Whether or not Programmer R18 will work with the P7100 depends on what version of Flash and DSP is currently in the radio.

Yes, you do; as noted above, the factory cable for the 7100 has a level converter built in.

Here’s what I know about 7100…

You can use a RIB with a 25 pin TTL straight to a UDC, no translator after the RIB, or you can use the newer programming cable and go “direct” res-232 to UDC via miniaturized and integrated translator.

I’ve used both. They are both transparent to RPM. When I got the 7100s, they came with a rib and a version of firmware that required me to hold buttons when powering up. Then, I finally got them working with firmware and DSP that supports AES256 iCall on P25C and suddenly, attaching a programming cable to the radio causes it to enter programming mode automatically.

Upgrading the DSP also made a zeroize much more straightforward… before, there was a sequence to zeroize, but it was also an unspoken rule (or maybe in a TSM) that after a zeroize, you had to wait for 30 seconds before using the radio or keyloading because the radio wasn’t actually done zeroizing, but you would have no way of knowing!! The new DSP now has a “wait” screen that forces you to wait until it’s actually finished.

It took serious troubleshooting and digging over a two month period to fix AES256 and P25C unmuting but it was worth it! The radios are perfect for my small rental outfit when privacy is a concern and you think the client has butterfingers…
