Just curious i see these at every intersection now.. Any ideas why they need PTZ's ? Who runs/manages them? I assume they are run by the county? Do cops have access to them? Looks like 2.4 or 5.8 GHz microwave links. Not sure.

If you're referring to the square or diamond-shaped flat white antennas mounted above the traffic signals, that would be an MDOT thing. From my understanding, in talking to a friend in the city traffic signal division, they link the traffic lights together so that depending on the traffic flow as read by the sensors, they can reprogram the timing on the lights so they are more "in sync". That raises the question of just how MDOT defines "in sync". They have them all up & down every major street in Battle Creek. (Some of the intersections use Yagi-style antennas that look to be 900 Mhz or higher.)

yes i have seen the 900mhz yagi antennas also. I wonder if any of these networks are registered with the FCC?

I know there are no answers to these questions but still i wonder why would a traffic monitoring system need a Pan Tilt zoom camera, and wonder if MDOT is the only agency with access to the video?

MDOT is very responsive on Facebook - you might drop them a note there.

In Washtenaw Co. our Signal Techs. have access to these camera's, they mainly use them to look at the traffic light's to make sure everything is working as it should. If the tech's get an alert on a traffic signal they can bring up that intersection on the lap top and monitior the light before actually going out on the site..The one's we have you can see a good 2 or more miles with them in hi def. Pretty cool stuff..
