Macon County Awards Contracts for back up 911 System

Macon County commissioners voted unaimously to award contracts for upgrades to the countys 911 communications system.They accepted a $168,000 bid from Interact Public Safety for Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Geographic Information System (GIS) componets of the new system and a $280,000 bid from Whitleys Communication for console comonents of the Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP). The improvements are covered by the states 911 reserve funds which must be used for 911 services.

911 communications director Todd Segal said that the most important part of the update will be having a true back up system.

The last upgrade to Macon County 911 system was back in 1991

County Manager Jack Horton said it would take four to six months to get the system installed.
