Congrats !!!
I too just made my first contact yesterday. I live in a fairly rural area, have one 2M repeater in the area with out a lot of traffic on it
I thought I'd try for a moble who was on his way home from work and hit a couple contacts, it was great. I've been trying on and off for about a week, I was starting to think the repeater had different settings then what I thought it had, but could easily hit the repeater with my Yaesu FT-60 at 5 watts. My License also came this week, no more temp.
I also just found out there is a radio club in the area, so I wrote to them asking for info on joining. I'm darn excited about a club, no way to learn and have more fun than to be able to meet with other radio operators.
I very much want to get into ARES/Races. I'm going to get with our county Emergency Coordinator next week and then if all looks good, start to study all the material and do the testing to get qualified
I'm in decent shape to lend a hand however I'm needed, I have a 144/440 radio, several antennas, a Toy Hauler with generator and 37 gallon gas tank' holds lots of fresh water, PV panels, charge controller and batteries and a amplifier. Good things to have to set up a base if requested. A place with a bathroom, refer and the ability to cook good hot meals would be welcome to other hams working whatever the emergency or activity is.
I use the toy hauler for camping, but will also equip it so I can jump in it and pull it where ever needed with very little notice. I'm kind of getting ahead of myself, I still need to get qualified first, but getting other things ready is never a bad thing.
Well here's hoping for may more good contacts for you !
