Madison FD - Code 10

Occasionally on the Madison FD channels I'll hear someone make reference to "Code 10". Something like this: Check with 'Code 10' and see if we need to... Does anyone know what this is referring to?

CODE 10 is police

When request Code 10 they are requesting a police officer on scene

Do they have other numbers for other things too? I'm not sure why they wouldn't just use plain language instead. Is this common terminology, or just something Madison came up with? Thanks for the info.

I really don't know. I've only heard them use Code 10 and not any other codes that I can remember.

I guess it's no different than a lot of PD's that use codes and some that even use 12 codes in Wisconsin.
