After being away from the scanning hobby for quite a while, I have been using my BC 780 XLT to monitor the Madison, MS Police Dept. and I'm hooked again. However, there are times when I like to monitor away from my usual location. I'm looking at purchasing a portable such as the Radioshack Pro-97 or the Pro-96 (digital). I'm wondering if I should go ahead and opt for the Pro-96 just in case Madison goes digital in the near future. Is there any way to determine if a city is contemplating a move toward digital? Thanks!

Yes

Check to see if they are filing to liscense/relicense any frequncies with digital /p25 emissions designators on the FCC website.

Given the fact that Hinds SO and Ridgeland have gone p-25, I don't think Madison will be far behind. I'd definately put my new scanner money into digital.

I live in Jackson btw. My pro-2096 does fine.
