Does anyone know why I am receiving ID 176 on Fauquier's system? I think it may be Madison or Warren County? Anyone know?

What exactly is this SIRS patch?

And why would it be in use all the time?

Re: SIRS

SIRS stands for Sheriff Interagency Radio System. This is found at 39.54. It is for Virginia statewide agency to agency and jurisdiction to jurisdiction radio communications. Here is Spotsylvania Co, the Spotsy dispatchers contact the Virginia State Police troopers, City of Fredericksburg, Stafford and Caroline Counties and Maryland State Police Helicopter when it comes to Spotsy and vice versa. SIRS can be patched into the Spotsy EDACS system when needed and could have the patch up for constant access to it as Fauquier apparently does if Sheriff Smith requested it.

Awesome.

Thanks for the information. Although I am very radio savy, I'm somewhat of a dimwhit when it comes to digital scanning.

Just a clarification. SIRS actually stands for Statewide Interdepartmental Radio System. Although there are a lot of variations of this name, this is the correct name as determined by VSP when it was adopted. I think the year was 1984?

I think it might be older than 1984. I started scanning in 1980 and had to buy the cyrstal for it. I remember SIRS coming about 2 years later.

The SIRS patch can be great listening. Early Sunday I lstened to a chase in Culpeper Co. of a confirmed stolen auto at speeds of 100mph before they wrecked & bailed. The last I heard they wanted the VSP helo for a search w/ FLIR.

But this am, there seems to be a birdy on it, so I locked out the bank. (Once I program the TG's, I will be able lockout only that TG.)

SIRS" 1978

I found that SIRS began in 1978.

From 1978:
" A voice communications capability between troopers and law enforcement personnel of other agencies across Virginia was instituted with the installation of additional radio equipment. The Statewide Interdepartmental Radio System-- SIRS-- enhanced the climate of cooperation between local agencies and the Department in times of mutual need. "
