Magnetic Scanner antenna??

Hey guys, I have a question. At my house, the way it is positioned and stuff, I can't get my brand new base unit, Uniden BCD536HP Scanner, to receive very clearly, on a UHF 453.150 MHz channel in my area it should be crystal. My question is instead of using the antenna it came with that mounts to the back of it, would I be able to use a Magnetic-car mount antenna and run it outside if my house and get better reception? Or is that specifically for cars due to the mounting on a metal vehicle frame? Thx in advance.
