I am looknig for recommendations for a magnetic trunk mount antenna for a 246T scanner.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Thank you for the advice regarding trunk mounted magnetic antennas. I was referrred to this bulletin board by Scanner Master. Maybe someday I will be as knowledgeable as the rest of the posters on here.

Mag mounts are fine. Don't let anyone scare you away!
We should actually build this list of questions and post it as a sticky for everybody to read before they ask for antenna advice!
Don't worry about grounding with a mag mount antenna. The mag mount inductively couples with the body/frame of the vehicle to create a ground. I have used mag mounts for many years with the only hassles being the connector inside the car becoming frayed over time. I don't worry about it, I just take it off and put a new connector on.
So, you're just going to toss that bomb out there without backing it up?Half of those questions are way out in left field...

What specifically did you find irrelevant in my questions?
The guy already has doubts, or he wouldn't be asking for help. You don't think it is important for him to consider all the factors before dropping fifty bucks or more on an antenna? Lots of people think they are sold on a particular antenna or item until they get some more information. I don't see how by offering that information I am somehow offending him. If he thought he already had all the answers, he wouldn't be here.6. It is clear the person asking the question is interested in a mag mount from their question. No need to cast doubt and cause more in your words "arguements.
Intelligent men always think ahead, and don't just live for the moment. I was taking into consideration that our OP might be an intelligent man. Again, I don't see how that would be insulting.7. The question posed was asking about a scanner not a ham radio.
Because it would be a waste of our time to spend two pages discussing options for the guy, and then him come back and do what others have done here before, which is to blow us all off and say, "No, I just want something I can buy here locally". Why give the guy a bunch of recommendations he can't use?9. Don't see where asking about a credit card number is relevant. Just assist with your knowledge and let the person asking the question make their own decisions.
My point exactly. But if we don't tailor our responses to his needs, it's not wisdom. It's just ratchet-jawing to boost your post count. I'd like to actually help the guy, not just post a lot of pointless chatter. By giving him some things to think about, hopefully I achieve that. But every single one of those questions come from someone before him shooting down our antenna recommendations based upon one of those factors, so they are definitely not irrelevant questions. If you think they are, you need to post less and read more.Never be afraid to share wisdom.
The problem is, it was NOT a "simple question". If this question were simple, it would not always result in two pages of responses. He asked for recommendations. I recommend he consider all those factors I listed rather than just take some stranger's unqualified recommendation to "buy the rat shack maggie". You don't like my recommendations? Tough. It wasn't you that I was giving them to.
Ah, sorry for the misunderstanding. I wasn't referring to anyone here. Certainly not you. It was just a general observation that many of the responses to this sort of question are nothing more than, "buy the rat shack maggie", and don't really qualify as the kind of advice that someone can use to make an intelligent and informed decision from. I dunno, maybe I just think more about my decisions than others, but if it were me asking for the advice, I'd want carefully considered and fully informed advice, so I was hoping to set that tone from the beginning. Again, sorry if I came across as less than sincere.I wonder who you are referring to when you say "some strangers unqualified recommendations"?
