I listen to the State plow trucks on 47.140 with great success. I hear trucks plowing and sanding in Piscataquis and Penobscot county via the Garland repeater. Are the plow trucks that do the I-95 from Newport up through Bangor and beyond on a different frequency? Also, what frequency can I hear the other plows in the other counties near me? (Somerset, Waldo, Hancock to name a few) Thanks, Richard

I might be telling you something you already know but on I-95 I would program in your areas DOT frequencies , or just do a search from 42 - 43 mhz and you'll most likely find them soon , as for the areas around , give me some towns and I'll see what I have for info...I don't live in Maine anymore but I have a MEGA database from when I did and I just moved in October so most will still be in use. What kind of scanner do you use if it's PC programmable I might just have a file for you. Don't mind sharing my info on Maine at all. I had a scanner/laptop setup 24/7 Logging Frequencies via software for quite a while in Kennebec County and found a lot of good stuff.

Thanks ScanDaBands and wltrsf for responding. Im using a Radio Shack pro-2017 scanner with just the built in indoor antenna. Plans on installing an outdoor antenna sometime soon. Im assuming that the DOT plow trucks that plow all the state highways in Penobscot and Piscataquis county do NOT plow the Interstate only because Ive never heard any of them giving WRT reports for I-95. Ive had LOADS of DOT frequencies in my scanner before, with really no results. I always hear traffic on 47.140 and occasionally I hear some traffic on 45.400, which I believe is channel 19 used for vehicle to vehicle talk. As for other areas of state plowing, Somerset county would be nice, with Skowhegan being part of that county. Alot of those frequencies look familiar wltrsf, but ill try them again and maybe Ill get lucky.

Perhaps I should have started a new thread but I have another question, NOT pertaining to DOT plow trucks. On 457.750 Mhz, I pick up the Piscataquis Sheriff dispatching fire and emergency related traffic. No call letters yet. Just recently, I have received on the same frequency, the Kennebec County fire dispatcher. They gave their call letters as WPFX777. Checking the FCC database, I dont see Kennebec County Fire having an output on 457.750. Perhaps Kennebec County fire has an output that is the input for the 457.750 repeater. I have no idea where the 457.750 transmitter is located. Any ideas on this? Thanks again.

YES , WPFX777 is most definitely Kennebec County's call sign........familiar with that frequency from when I was in Winslow , that was used by the Kennebec Sheriff's Dept in that area , and if I remember correctly that was located at Quaker Hill in Sydney , don't quote me on that but I think that's right.....not sure that I heard that a lot...I did log these freqeuncies checking back on some of my logs for Kennebec County as far as fire went.....but again used rarely

453.675
453.800
453.975

458.675
458.800
459.975

They MOSTLY used 150.995 and that was located in Oakland somewhere.

Ok on WAM958. Somehow I dont believe thats what Im hearing. FCC database says that transmitter is just 43 watts ERP. From my experience, I dont pick up stations that far with only 43W ERP with a set of hills between here and there! Also, how would the Piscataquis Sheriff be hitting that repeater?

As far as WPFX777, I dont see them with an output frequency of 457.750 anywhere. The Quaker Hill antenna farm shows the 150.995 you mentioned.

Thats pretty much what Ive found on the FCC database. Its just strange. Ill hear KNCR708 Piscataquis Sheriff on 153.920, which is where the database says they should be. But then I also hear Piscataquis Sheriff KNCR708 on 452.750 which the database shows as WNKX787 at Mansfield Ledge Garland, 180 watts ERP. I know sometimes a repeater will have the input offset 5 MHZ from the output. If you go 5 MHZ one way, youll arrive at 457.750, which is where I hear the Piscataquis Sheriff sometimes, the same frequency I hear Kennebec Fire. The Piscataquis Sheriff sounds louder on 457.750 and weaker on 452.750. Seeing I live near Dover Foxcroft, maybe Ill go down there and talk to whoever is in charge of radio maintenance and ask them what the deal is.
