So much for mopping up. Just dropped some Jumpers and it sounds like the fire is still active.

Storm front moving in the next few hours.... could really liven this thing up. So far have heard a few jumpers dropped, a couple choppers, also at least 2 heavy planes coming in soon. Thing is quiet now, but not given up the fight.

Fire Declared Contained

Salt Lake Tribune Story 7-31-2008

The City Creek Canyon fire is 75 percent contained this morning, and 120 firefighters have been demobilized as remaining crews work to douse remaining hot spots.

One helicopter is on standby, but a fire spokesman said the chopper likely will not be very active today. There are 85 remaining firefighters working in the canyon.

"Things are pretty well under control," said Jason Curry. "There are a few spots where we need to reinforce the lines and get things improved before we turn it over to the city folks."

Curry, who is investigating the cause of the fire, said he is looking at a couple different human causes.

"We've got to interview some people still," he said.

The blaze started early Tuesday and has burned about 130 acres. It is expected to be fully contained within the next few days.
