It has always been bad at Kramer Junction. Since they put up the lights in the late 90's it has helped a little. Since they Barstow to Vegas has been stopped and there are less open areas for dirt bikes. The main areas are Deumont Dunes in San Bernardino County and then Dove Springs, Jawbone Canyon, and Borax Park all in Kern County. Thanksgiving weekend is one of the worst out in the area. This weekend Mercy 14, Mercy 15, Medavac 1, and an LACoFD copter were all used to fly people out.

I found an article about the crash:

Woman dies in four-vehicle crash

KRAMER JUNCTION • A San Jose woman died in a four-vehicle crash on Highway 58 Sunday night.

Sang Kyung Oh, 38, died of her injuries at the scene of the crash, after a semi truck rear-ended the car she was riding in, according to reports from the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner’s Department and the California Highway Patrol.

Kyung Oh was the passenger in a 2008 Kia Spectra that was westbound on Highway 58, seven miles east of Kramer Junction, when a semi truck that failed to brake in response to slowing traffic crashed into the back of the car, pushing it into the eastbound lanes, according to the CHP report. The right side of the Kia was broad-sided by an eastbound semi truck.

Before coming to rest in the eastbound lanes, the Kia rear-ended another car and pushed it off the north side of the road, according to the CHP report.

Kyung Oh was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:25 p.m., according to the coroner’s report. According to the CHP report, she was not wearing a seatbelt. The Kia’s driver, a 29-year-old San Jose man, was airlifted to Loma Linda University Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, according to the CHP report.

No one else was injured in the crash. CHP Officer Taj Johnson said the crash did not close the highway to traffic for any significant period of time.
