I thought I would share some of my ideas on what can be done to squeeze a bit more life out of the old ham bands...
Link all analog repeaters together so that they have activity on them, this way they'll be UK wide and with internet links they'll also be world wide rather than repeaters sitting forever dead like many of them here. Surely it must cost money to keep these old disused analog repeaters going.
Simplex... have more events like 145 Alive to encourage simplex activity, we need some leaders who are good at getting people to talk on air, we could have quiz nights and other things on simplex... we need fresh new ideas. If it can be done on CB then it can be done on Ham radio. I think leadership is a big one...
70cms simplex could also do with some attention to get it active again.
4 meters I understand not everybody has an antenna up for 4 meters and it has not had much interest for a very long time but maybe a simplex internet link can be put on that too, at least then one 4 meter frequency will be in use.
Just some ideas. I'd be interested in any ideas that other people might have to make these bands active again or at the very least extend the life for a bit longer.
