DSD+ would indicate if they're using Basic or Enhanced.

You might be able to tell by listening to your 750. If the scrambling has a syllabic rhythm (during transmission garbled noise is only heard word for word) it is Basic Privacy.

If it's a constant stream of garbled sounds, it's likely 40 bit EP or better.

A few malls near me switched to TRBO but in the clear.

I'm visiting this mall in a few months. I'll have to bring my laptop and check their system out.

It was my understanding that if you tried to listen to Enhanced Privacy (40-bit) transmission with a radio without an EP key in it, the radio won't unmute.

So when you listened to this system on your CS750, was it in monitor mode?

Disregard this. I did a test and ran some MotoTRBO EP to my Tytera MD-380 and CS-700 and both radios passed the encrypted audio.

Motorola MotoTRBO System Planner states a radio won't unmute for an EP transmission unless it has the proper EP key or an incorrect EP key, in which case it would produce garbled audio. Maybe this is related to the firmware in a TRBO radio. Might be looking for the PI.

We need someone to run DSD+ on this system for as much info about it. I don't get reliable signal here in the North Metro and in no position (broken leg) to get close enough for a reliable signal decode. It's too bad about all the encryption but it was expected. With the Mall under the expansion project I guess they wanted to update an old analog system with a Moto digital for coverage maybe?.
