Malls on the MCTRS was a big thing back when the scan-wis group had a chat room open every sunday night.

Everyone was against it,some were even ticked off that they were on the county system,I am not just talking about scanner people being ticked, there were Public Safety people in the group that thought Malls do not belong on the system.

I remember one time when Mayfair just started to use Tosa PD A2 ,Mayfair dispatch was trying to tell Tosa dispatch about a incident they have with security chasing some people on foot for something, and the mayfair dispatcher was using a bunch of 10 codes.
Something like "We had a 10-54 and are now 10-48 with the 10-39's ......"
Tosa dispatch replied "Those codes mean nothing at all to me" LOL

Yes, there are members of the public safety user community who strongly disapprove of having the mall security on the system. We've closely monitored their use and reconfigured access and system security as needed. (Likewise public service agencies - municipal DPWs, etc.) Certainly we understand the importance of mission-critical communications!

I agree about the 10 codes. We need to get the security firms to take IC100, 200, 700 and 800. (referring of course to FEMA's NIMS/ICS training - smile)

But 10 codes are so deep in the culture, it's next to impossible to expect any dispatch operation to give them up completely. Funny how that works.

The only reason an operation like a mall security group uses 10 codes is because it helps feed their whacker ego. It's bizarre to me that a bunch of rent-a-cops would need to be that elaborate in the first place. Also, it seems they are very protective of who listens to them, as I have heard stories of guards approaching people in the mall and telling them they can't listen to their channel while in the mall.

Wierd stuff! I assume the mall radios are 2nd or 3rd tier radios in the system priority scheme?

Weird! I was just at Mayfair Mall this afternoon on a little day trip to Milwaukee. The wife and I were astounded at how many security guards there were around the mall, there were at least 3 mobile units and a minimum of 14 inside units, usually in tag teams. The local mall to me (Hawthorn in Vernon Hills IL) is twice the size of Mayfair and has 4 to 6 units (1 mobile, the rest walking) working on a Friday night.

With my trusty BCD396T I was using CloseCall only, and heard quite a bit of traffic on the TRS and little other traffic except for a couple sales associates at Macy's and one of the boutiques, both on 461.xxx.

I would think they should do well with a UHF repeater like all the other malls but I am not in the position to make those decisions...

They had their own VHF repeater before moving to the MCTRS,I think the housekeeping people are still on the VHF
