While on a recent trip to the Manahawkin area I was asked if I knew of the "tooth pik farm" and it's purpose. My assumption is on seeing it from a distance is it is a HF and VLF facility. Can anyone enlighten me more ?

I believe you're correct. It was the old "Ocean Gate Radio". Think the call sign was WOO. It provided ship-to-shore radio telephone services for ships at sea. The transmitter and its receiver were seperated by about 8-10 miles since it was a full duplex system. I use to hear that station when I was a kid on the HF bands. I'm going by memory so some one else may chime in with more accurate info.

Trouble is Ocean Gate is just south of Seaside and a pretty long haul from there to Manahawkin. Ocean Gate is the WOO site while a bit south of Manahawkin in West Creek is the old RCA coastal maritime station WSC site now owned by the Tuckerton Wireless ARC and the home of their club station W2WSC. You can't miss the lighted 300' LF tower at the foot of Murphy Road off Rte. 9.

Thanks guys. I think it's WOO now as their licensed location is saying Manahawkin. I should have figured it out sooner after being a long time UTE monitor. Just been away from it for a bit. WSC might have been the other side of the duplex. Not sure, but possible. In any event thanks as it just filled the question.
