Hi all,

As might be obvious if you've peeked at the DB today, I've started doing some editing on the MTS FleetNet system in Manitoba. This is mainly because I found my Unitrunker data files from when I traveled through the province last summer, and remembered that the system broadcasts site IDs not as 1xx, 2xx, etc., but as site xx on sysid 4032, and so on. The way it was set up on RR was, with all due respect to whoever posted it like that, just plain wrong.

I also found that 99% of the sites are posted in the TAFL with lat/long data and confirmed frequencies, so I updated that as well. Once the "counties" finally get added to the Canadian provinces, each site will be able to be placed in its respective county, making it that much easier for folks to locate the site near to them.

Quite frankly, I'm tired right now as I spent a sizable chunk of the afternoon separating zones 1 and 2. I'll sort out zone 3 later on - tomorrow or during the week.

As always, please submit data if you see anything that needs changing.

Jay, sites such as Zone 2, Berens River, where you have only one frequency listed, have interesting stories behind them.

Those sites are on Indian reservations in the middle no nowhere, accessible only by plane/chopper. MTS couldn't justify sticking up a 3-5 channel site, as it would never see more than one user and the Indians would probably steal the equipment. (sad but true).

They are configured as conventional Quantars. They're linked into RCMP telecoms via ASTRO modems.

On the user side of things, the RCMP have a zone in their radios with simplex/repeater channels. When they go up north to those craphole reserves, they switch over.

When/if a talkgroup user (Selkirk does this quite frequently) needs to speak with an officer on one of those craphole reserves, they ask telecoms to patch the conventional repeater into the talkgroup. Works OK for the most part. When the conversation is complete, the patch is removed.

The conventional repeaters are configured for CAI, not analog.
