Not sure how to word the title, but what I'd like to know is this:

Let's say I have 10 scan lists. I've only selected one which is active. The scanner is automatically scanning through frequencies. Now, all I want to do is stop the auto scanning and scroll through the frequencies I have programmed ONLY in the active list. For some reason, unless I'm missing something, the 500 doesn't work like that.

In my case, whenever I hit MAN, the scanner will go back to the last manually tuned frequency I selected, even if it's not in the active scan list. It's really annoying. Is there a way around this?

Not that I know of. Mine goes to whatever was the last active object whether or not it was manually tuned or not, though.

Well, I guess the work-around is to just use the directional keypad to move between lists, but still not something very intuitive.. at least to me.

I think you will find that this was corrected with CPU f/w 1.5.

Manual scrolling can be extremely easy if you are willing to sacrifice a few CONV objects for labelling purposes, and use a software program (such as Win500) that allows you to manipulate the object numbers in the radio.

Win500 lets you organize using temporary object numbers of your own, but objects assigned numbers 0000-1851 retain these object #'s even after the radio has converted all the others.

My solution is as follows:

Objects 0000-0022 are reserved for use as Scanlist markers when manually scrolling.

I use 0000 for Unassigned, 0001-0020 for the scanlists, 0021 for Favorites and 0022 for Skywarn.

With each of these objects, program in a dummy frequency and lock the object out of the scan. Set the scanlist # of each object to the number that you want it to be the label for. Use the object's alpha tag identify the scanlist by any name you want. You won't need to include the Scanlist # unless you want to--it appears in the upper left corner when you're in Manual anyway.

Because you're using the lowest possible object #'s, these dummy objects will be the first thing you see when you scroll to that scanlist using the <> keys. Make sure to include each dummy object ONLY in the scanlist that you want it to label.

Here's an example of what I have:

OBJECT# ALPHA TAG SCANLISTS OTHER
0000 UNASSIGNED none locked out
0001 Scan List #1 1 locked out
0002 Scan List #2 2 locked out
0021 Favorites 21 locked out
0022 Skywarn 22 locked out

To use....

1 - Put the radio in manual.

2 - Scroll to the desired scanlist using the <> keys. If you've set this up correctly, you'll see the labels as you scroll left/right.

3 - Once you find the label of the Scanlist you want, use the up/down arrows to scroll to the object you want.
