• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Manually programming the KG-UV6D

Programming is done in three steps:

A) Enter the frequency
B) Save the frequency to a channel
C) Name the channel

Optionally you can set bandwidth, transmit power, receive tone, and transmit tone. These values will remain the same after you change then so you do not have to keep changing them for additional frequencies.

A) Choose your frequency. This is either a single SIMPLEX frequency or the RECEIVE frequency if a repeater will be used:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1) Switch to VFO mode by pressing MENU and then S/D
2) Select your frequency by entering six digits on the keypad. If required the seventh digit will be automatically added

...OPTIONAL: If necessary change the step:
......1) Press MENU and either use the channel knob to select STEP or press “01” on the keypad.
......2) Press MENU again to edit the value
......3) Use the channel knob to select the value you want (such as 6.25K)
......4) Press MENU again to save the value and it will say “Enter”

...OPTIONAL: Set power (this value will remain the same for additional frequencies so you can skip this step after the first time)
......1) Press MENU and either use the channel knob to select TXP or press “04” on the keypad.
......2) Press MENU again to edit the value
......3) Use the channel knob to select the value you want (choices are HIGH or LOW)
......4) Press MENU again to save the value and it will say “Enter”

...OPTIONAL: Set bandwidth (this value will remain the same for additional frequencies so you can skip this step after the first time)
......1) Press MENU and either use the channel knob to select WN or press “08” on the keypad.
......2) Press MENU again to edit the value
......3) Use the channel knob to select the value you want (choices are WIDE or NARROW)
......4) Press MENU again to save the value

...OPTIONAL: Set receive tone (this value will remain the same for additional frequencies so you can skip this step after the first time)
......1) Press MENU and use the channel knob to select R-CTC (for CTCSS) or R-DCS (for DPL).
......2) Press MENU again to edit the value
......3) Use the channel knob to select the value you want
......4) Press MENU again to save the value

...OPTIONAL: Set transmit tone (this value will remain the same for additional frequencies so you can skip this step after the first time)
......1) Press MENU and use the channel knob to select T-CTC (for CTCSS) or T-DCS (for DPL).
......2) Press MENU again to edit the value
......3) Use the channel knob to select the value you want
......4) Press MENU again to save the value

B) Save to a channel:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For SIMPLEX (not using a repeater):

1) Press MENU and use the channel knob to select MEM-CH
2) Press MENU again to edit the value
3) Use the channel knob to select the channel number that you want
4) Press MENU again to save the value and it should say "receiving memory"
5) Press MENU again to edit the value AGAIN
6) DO NOT change the value--keep it at the frequency that you had for the receive value
7) Press MENU again to save the value and it should say "transmit memory"

For offset frequencies (such as when using a repeater):

1) Press Menu and use the channel knob to select MEM-CH
2) Press Menu again to edit the value
3) Use the channel knob to select the channel number that you want
4) Press Menu again to save the value and it should say "receiving memory"
5) Enter your TRANSMIT frequency using the keypad
6) Press Menu and use the channel knob to select MEM-CH
7) Press Menu again to edit the value
8) DO NOT change the value--keep it at the frequency that you had for the receive value
9) Press Menu again to save the value and it should say "transmit memory"

C) Name the channel (you must be in channel mode to name the channel):
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1) Switch to channel mode by pressing MENU and S/D. It will say “channel mode XX” where XX is the current channel that the radio is on
2) Press Menu and use the channel knob to select CHNAME or press 27 on the keypad
3) Press Menu again to edit the value
4) Use the channel knob to select the value you want:
-- Clockwise selects the alpha-numeric value
-- Counter-clockwise moves you to the next character space
5) Press Menu again to save the name

Notes:

The S/D key will change from single to dual mode on the radio. While in single mode pressing A/B will change which channel or frequency is in use. In dual mode A/B changes which is the transmit channel or frequency.
