Many Scanners/HF/Antennas and Your Heart Pacemaker???

Does anyone know if reception on several radios ranging from HF to EHF going at the same time with antennas everywhere could affect someone wearing a Pacemaker through harmonics being emitted by the I.F.'s ?? Or any residual harmonics from outside antennas? Can anyone explain why there are Warnings posted for Pacemakers around microwave's? And can receivers operating up in the 1300 mhz range affect a Pacemaker?? :idea:

The warnings are for overly concerned lawyers.

But a microwave is a TRANSMITTER, not a receiver.

Don't worry about your scanner anymore than your TV, your computer, the radio and TV stations you drive by, your cell phone, the cell phone in the guys pocket next to you, the cell phone site on top of the building, etc. etc. etc!

Every one of those, with the exception of the TV set, pumps more signal into a pacemaker than a modern scanner would.

Actually, if you have a pacemaker, DO NOT pick up the TV while it's on.

It'll be a race to see if it hits the floor before you do if you try. :shock:

Don't believe me.. ask my Uncle. He tried picking it up so my aunt could dust under it. Oh wait... you can't ask him. He's not here anymore. :(

You sure the TV is less?
TVs radiate a lot (relativele to the rest of what they radiate) of EMF from the front of the CRT, but not anything that would affect a pacemaker. Most of the RF circuits are at the microvolt or millivolt level, so radiation would be around noise level, definitely less than 15 uv/meter, at any rate. (Except for that one set that was putting out a 121.5 MHz signal a while back. :) )

OOOPs, my bad, I did noty notice that all my other examples were transmitters of some type.

Although I would "guess" that the TV is in the same range as the computer as they both fall under Part 15.

I have a pacemaker that was implanted last November. I have not noticed any side effects from scanners or other radios. I may be one of the younger persons that have pacemaker, age 36.

When my daughter got her first at age five I asked the doctor (who was a ham BTW) if I could continue to operate around her. He said there would be no problem as long as power levels were kept reasonable and the antennas on the car should be mounted on the roof and not the trunk. To him reasonable was under 100 watts on HF and 30 on v/uhf. And this was way back in the dark ages of the 80s.

Listen around 144.97 (or maybe .95 or .99) near a computer with an old serial card. The oscillator made a pretty nice lp transmitter - even considering that it was a pretty high-order harmonic.

No offense but maybe it was from lifting the TV not from any effects of the pace maker. No need to ask your Uncle. Ask the millions of lawyers who would be laughing all the way to the bank if pace makers were affected by the TV wall at Wall Mart.
