Map pages

When Fire dispatch gives map pages out for locations, what maps are they using for the Denver metro area?

Denver and Aurora make their own. I presume the other dept's do too. They show hydrant locations and sometimes the size of the water main. I have Denver and Aurora map books here somewhere in a box.

Not that I am aware of Luke. They are also linked directly to the CAD systems and also often to MDT's. But all depts I monitor still provide an address in addition to the map page so it's really easy to look up online or in Pierson's.

I doubt that you could buy the books anywhere. If you could, one for the metro area would be very, very thick. My Denver book alone is about 2 inches thick. I have all my pages in plastic to protect them so that adds to the thickness.

That must have taken you awhile to put all those pages in a plastic covering.

You're right, It's not that hard to look up addresses. I just thought it would be fun to be able to look at the same maps that they are.

Some depts do use the Pierson map grids and those are available at 8th & Lincoln.

I actually use the Piersons, but I haven't noticed that they match any map pages around here. I do see that they are different every year however. Maybe I have the wrong year. Might be time for an '05.

Like Jim was saying, department maps usually correspond to that of the CAD system. It's probably printed right from the program. It's easier to have it that way just because when a new street is created they just have to add it to CAD and print out a new page.

I guess I will stop looking for them online and at the map stores. That would answer the reason you hear "no map page available" when dispatch sends someone outside of their district huh?
