Does anybody in the Marana area know if the department sells their radios to monitor the Dispatch channels? I know most departments across the United States are selling "modified" radios that disable the PTT button, and only monitor the Dispatch channel only. Anybody know if Marana has that option since I can't monitor them on my BC996T?

I believe they don't make it possible. They intentionally encrypted their system to block out anyone outside of their system. Even local law enforcemnt is SOL, (Sorry out of luck).

There are 2-3 channels which are not encrypted, but you will only hear them when a major event takes place, i.e. Golf Tournament.

Thank you everyone for your input. Let us all pray and hope the new PCWIN radio system will not pull what Marana pulled on their new P25 radio system.

No they do not sell any radios. I have NEVER heard of departments selling radios with PTT disabled before was this at an auction? Just curious to see who is doing that. As far as PCWIN goes who knows what they will do with it.

Awhile back, i remember that you could 'Lease' a police radio. It would have the PTT disabled and no mic with it. I think this was done when trunking first became available and was touted as being scanner un-friendly. News organizations and the public could lease a radio, I remember it was expensive. I think this is what he is referring to.
