friday i caught the piqua post and the montgomery post on 774.2875 analog. it must be a mre extender. i was driving north on dixie just south of the wagner-ford road. we started to hear car and dispatch type talk which sounded like the old osp on low band. we saw a osp car behind a vehicle in front of dayton gold club. we had a 780 and had it stopped on osp-57 dispatch. they were going at the same time. and stopped at the same time.

John did you post this on the MARCS Group as well? I would be willing to bet that it is there so other dept.s can copy OSP traffic on analog scanners in dispatch and in their cruisers. Kind of a patch to give them at least monitoring abilities to the OSP traffic. I have heard OSP cruisers go to several local PD channels to go direct with them. Its the only reason I can think of for this as most rural departments are still on analog FM radio and have scanners in the cruisers. I still have the UHF OSP bands in my radios but traffic on there has been non existent in the area. I did copy some traffic today OSP Piqua on my search scanner but unfortunately only had 1 eye open. lol. Per our conversation I have entered the channel to see what is going on.?? Nice catch. I've been trying to catch their MRE's for over a year and had no luck. I will check the 396 and verify I have that freq. in there.

I posted something about this a few weeks ago and didnt get any responses that were useful.

Thank you!

I don't have the frequencies off hand, but they are listed in the RR database.

Path: Ohio, Ohio Highway Patrol

They are in the 774 band I believe.

I've copied them numerous times - set the 996 with an alert tone to remind myself.

I have all 3 programmed - but no idea which has more hits.

Also used in some ODNR vehicles.

Heard an MRE last night in Piqua on 774.2875. Analog w/DCS of 306. I work in Piqua and have my 396 searching 770 to 776 all day long. Only one hit last night as I was leaving around 7pm. I will advise if I catch any other frequencies.

Well, after one week of listening, it seems the only MRE freq. in use around Dayton is 774.2875 w/DCS 306.

I'm not sure how multiple units on 1 scene can use the same freq. without tranmitting/receiving over each other, but I've always wondered that when it came to MRE's

Also, some Motor Carriers are still using UHF MRE's.....heard two of them today at a major crash on 75.

Vehicular repeaters have circuitry that listen for other MREs. There is logic circuitry that doesn't allow another repeater to become active or if already on will turn all but one repeater off. Then as units leave the scene one MRE will turn itself on to provide repeated traffic. Sort of a simplified explanation, but I hope you get the picture.

OSP Post 76 & 77 MRE's on 774.???? Mhz.

I am wondering if anyone has heard anything from the Post 76 &77 Canton area units on the new OSP MRE 774 Mhz. Frequencies? I have been listening for several months and even work nearby to the Canton post and still have not heard anything as of yet on any of the three frequencies noted in RR.

I used to be able to listen on their old 465 MRE frequency when units were at the post from my work location's parking lot.

If anyone knows which one of the three frequncies to listen to here in Stark/Summit county and could pass it on it would be most appreciated.

Many Thanks, Rich

I have definitely heard the MREs in the Post 76/77 area on the 774.xxx freqs. Can't remember which freq., but it was one of the ones listed in the database. I have them programmed into my 996. The Trooper was out of her cruiser and I was driving by. Didn't seem like the range was that great, not like the 400 MREs.

On my PSR-500 with just the duck I have heard them 1.5 to 2 miles away.
That seems quite sufficient for the purpose they serve and we who scan them.

I am currently listening to a Post 4 unit about 2 blocks from my house using his MRE on 774.2875 DPL of 306 in analog mode.

He recovered a stolen vehicle.

Possible OSP District 6 extenders... 774.2875 carrier squelch.

Unconfirmed, but likely.

Update 1500L 05/09/2008 - 774.2875 carrier squelch confirmed for District 6. Since I work in the courthouse, there are troopers in and out all day, and they do turn on their VRE when they come inside.
