All these agencies jumping on MARCS. Wait until the state tells you can't do this or that on the system and when you have to buy replacement radio to their spec.'s. It's just a matter of time before it starts and people will be complaining like no ones business.

Well you do have to buy Project 25 radio's to be on the new MARCS P25 system. But you can buy from any P25 radio supplier.

There is federal funding available to assist in the move to the following systems.

In Cuyahoga County you have two P25 choices (with funding assistance). The new MARCS 700 Mhz system or the (being built) new Cleveland P25 800Mhz system. Every community in Cuyahoga County has been notified of the federal funds available for each of the above systems. Cuyahoga County and Cleveland are jointly administering the federal funds.

I know the above is accurate because I heard from several local Mayors, Councilmen, Police and Fire Chiefs about the number of meetings they've had to attend regarding the option to move to a P25 system and the federal funding.

Note: also heard complaints because there is no funding for rebanding or replacement of existing VHF or UHF radio's.

One other note: Parma has a P25 system, but haven't heard about any federal funding options if you want to join that system.

OK question.

Are these TGIDs on the 700 MHz P25 in addition to or replacing the TGIDs in the reqular 800 MARCS system?

I have HILLCREST S 19424, HILLCREST SE 43968, HILLCREST 36896, and EASTCOMM 36880 on the 800 system but locked out since there was constant babble and I'm really not in that area.

I have the 700 system on search because new TGIDs are always popping up.

The TG's are unique to each system. Each has it's own database of Talk Groups.

FYI: The legacy statewide MARCS system is a Motorola Type II SmartZone Omnilink system (Motorola proprietary). The new MARCS system is a Project 25 system (which is run on a P25-IP Motorola Astro 7.X system).

.

Right. What I was trying to ask was are these Hillcrest and Eastcomm agencies now on both systems for some reason, or are they moving to the 700 system,
thanks.

They are or will be moving to the P25 system.

In fact everyone on MARCS will eventually move to the P25 system. The original Moto Type II system is almost at its capacity limit.

Going forward, federal funding will only be available for open systems (aka P25).

A person I know who lives two blocks from me, has a brother-in-law who is a member of the Lorain County Sheriff's Dept. Last week, he mentioned that the County is currently building a "new digital police radio system that will eventually allow them to talk from one end of the state to the other with a handheld radio, just like here in Michigan." However, he doesn't know when it will be completed.

Anyone got a clue as to when this new Lorain County radio system will be online?

Have not heard anything at all or even a mention of it.

Heard MetroParks say to switch to Channel 7 and picked up a lot of hits on TGID 54704. This has been reported as Ch 7 previously also.

Earlier today (11:30 - 11:45 a.m.) I heard Eastcom doing a radio check with Cecoms on TG14500.

Same time frame on TG14501 I heard traffic regarding fire hydrant checks on Mayfield road.

Multiple TG hits

I turned my scanner on at 4:33 p.m. today and started recieving Wild Card TG hits. From 4:33 to 4:55 I recorded 42 Wild Card hits.

The radio id for the hits was the same 1890801. The TG hits were in the following ranges, 135XX, 545XX, 546XX and single hits at 17501, 19527, 3000 and 59747.

The hits on the three ranges came in patterns, starting in sequential order (13516, 13517 and 13518) then changing to increments (of four or eight) (8 up from 13518) 13526, 13534 and then back to single increments. Same patterns for 545XX and 546XX.

I don't know what if any significance there was to the test.

To be honest at first I thought my scanner had gone haywire.

So if anyone has any ideas. Also if anyone knows what group the 1890801 radio id belongs to, that might be helpful.

Well I got 13521, 13551, and 54530 only. But I was scanning a bunch of other systems also and I have no idea on the radio ID.

I am getting hits on 13501, 13516, 13551, 14492, 54,552 and 54704. The transmissions are so short that I cannot get the drift of who or what is going on. I guess I will have to just concentrate on that system for awhile.

Question

I'm using FreeScan to program my Uniden BCD996XT for this 700 MHz P25 system.

In the TG section you can specify Analog, Digital, or All. Since it's clearly digital (I think) why when I set the progamming to digital and upload it that way, then download it, it shows set to ALL instead of digital.

Is this a FreeScan issue or a Uniden issue or an operator issue (me). What's going on here?

Ed,

If I was you, I'd post this question on the Uniden Forum.

The database has several Alpha Tag's that start with an X.

XLECOMM-1
XMARCS-1
