Here on the Findlay site and Brander site I'm getting a TG 50520 with an 87id # this would make since with wood county being 87. I'm not aware of anyone using marcs IP in wood county.

I got that on the Toledo Tower tonight. I was wondering if it could be a Tac channel for Post 87? This is just speculation mind you.

Here's one for you... yesterday, TG 51520 became active (Middle Point tower). Radio service did some checks, and then it went live. It is also OSP Van Wert Post. TG 51697 went live for them earlier in the week.

I am running Unitrunker now, and both TGs have identical traffic like a simulcast. Listening to the scanner verifies this. Could it be one will eventually be used Post 20 traffic?

Also, 852.7500 is now showing up in the Middle Point MARCS-IP frequency list on Unitrunker. It was a freq from the MP site on the old MARCS.

NEWS RELEASE
March 17, 2016
SUBJECT: SHERIFF’S OFFICE COMPLETES MAJOR RADIO
COMMUNICATIONS REPLACEMENT PROJECT
Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini announces that the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office has just completed a long overdue major radio communication replacement project. This project included the replacement of “every” mobile radio located in all fifty- one vehicles (including our boat) operated by Deputy Sheriff’s and also included the replacement of “every” portable hand held radio issued to all sworn officers.
Sheriff Donini states “We, here at the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office have indeed achieved many significant accomplishments over the years however, I believe we have just completed the process of probably the most significant accomplishment I have ever experienced during my thirty eight years here at the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office”. Sheriff Donini states “we have finally been able to do something of significance to improve the safety of every Deputy Sheriff who serves the residents of Scioto County”.
The Portsmouth Police Department serves a population of 20,430 covering 11.07 square miles and the New Boston Police Department serves a population of 2,227 encompassing 1.14 square miles. The Scioto County Sheriff’s Office serves a population of 78,153 encompassing 616 square miles. “There is an extremely large difference between the operations of our local law enforcement agencies when serving our communities and when a Deputy Sheriff from the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office needs help, it’s vitally important that he/she be heard”.
Sheriff Donini states “the installation of the these new digital radios are part of the “Multi Agency Radio Communication System” also commonly referred to as MARCS and will greatly improve officer safety”, “I’ve already heard many comments from the Deputy’s as to how “crystal clear” they and the dispatcher along with other mobile units and can talk and communicate so much better”. “One Deputy advised me that he arrived in Cincinnati, Ohio to pickup an inmate which is approximately 116 miles away and was able to communicate with the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office Dispatcher as if they were standing next to each other talking”.
Some of the other additional benefits of being a participant in the MARCS platform is that we can communicate with any other agency that participates in the MARCS platform such as: Portsmouth Police Department, Department of Natural Resources, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Shawnee State University, Scioto County EMA, any local Fire Department using MARCS, Lawrence, Pike, Jackson and Adams County Sheriff’s Offices “all from one radio”!
The total cost for the MARCS project was $223,088.97 along with a monthly service fee of ten dollars per radio. The majority of the initial cost for the MARCS project was financed through non-general funds including the Federally Forfeiture Assets account which is derived from seizing assets from individuals charged and/or convicted of crimes from which the majority was associated with criminal activity involving trafficking in drugs.

I think somebody did that news release the right way. Pretty good sales pitch, although the sale was done already.

And a monthly service fee of ONLY ten dollars per radio.

What a great deal!!!

One has to consider Scioto Co terrain/coverage. There are 8-10 sites IN and right around Scioto Co with the intent to provide adequate coverage there. And i'm not even sure any of those sites are county owned. Think they may all be state owned. Somebody has to pay for the infrastructure somehow.

I don't keep track of what goes in Scioto Co, but given that it's a border county I bet there is a lot of interdiction activity [or the potential for such], and so they certainly could be able to fund that $10/radio/mo on asset seizures alone.

If the Sheriff's statement isn't blowing smoke and they really all are very impressed with coverage and voice quality, it sure sounds like a win for them.

I have a BCD436HP and Columbus PD sounds very static when on the edge of the system. Here better the farther into the city I go. It will be nice when they switch as it will sound good again.

I am listening to CPD on their old system. Other than about a week ago, I have not heard them on MARCS-IP yet.

I thought you were referring to the MARCS-IP system since you posted in this forum.

The analog system is just plain wore out and they are not going to spend any more funds on a system with probably less than a year of use left. Depending on the frequency I sometimes have problems when right in the city and within site of a tower.

I thought this was interesting, Was listening to TG 51718 to determine its use and it would make me wonder if it isn't something similar to TG 25296 from the old MARCS. That was a monitor for Lucas Co Sheriff & Toledo PD. Only reason I ask is I heard what sounded like Toledo PD traffic on the TG in question.

I really couldn't tell you. My only guess is they monitor for things like chases and stuff like that. It was the same thing on Old MARCS 25296. The RID on the new TG was the same 9002276 everytime. No other RID has been used on that TG. I get that it is in the OSHP area of 515xx-517xx, but, really haven't heard anything other than Lucas or Toledo.

TG 51718 was set up by OSP to be able to monitor TPD and LCS. Adding this TG to MARCS-IP allows OSP to add this to their scanlist in their radios, eliminating the need for a second radio to monitor TPD and LCS.

As others have noted, the old MARCS had the same TG for OSP.
