Seems to me that if Geauga only needed talkgroups for interop with Lake, Cuyahoga....
they wouldn't need all those talkgroups that are posted. I guess we need somebody in the know to help out here, rather than our guesses.
Here are the FACTS from the individual who is co-ordinating the Geauga System and has authoized me to post this.
John,
We are upgrading the analog system to digital, as part of that upgrade all of our sites will be uplifted to P25.
It has been the plan since the start to connect our site into the larger MARCS-IP system, and to form a partnership to avoid duplication of efforts and unnecessary expenditures. While our system will use the same system ID (348) as MARCS-IP, Geauga County will maintain full ownership of the sites and will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and operation of our sites. The reuse of the system ID for our sites can cause confusion over who actually is running the sites.
The benefits of the partnership between MARCS-IP and Geauga County:
- Geauga County saved about $1 million dollars on the cost of our upgrade by piggybacking on to some equipment the State had already purchased.
- Geauga County users will automatically roam to the MARCS-IP system when they leave the county, no channel changing is necessary.
- Geauga County users will continue to have free access to the Geauga County system and will not be subject to radio user fees for using the MARCS-IP system.
- The State will not have to build MARCS-IP towers in Geauga County; the Geauga sites will carry state traffic as well.
- The State will not have to pay recurring costs for T1 circuits in Geauga County; all connectivity is provided by the County microwave network.
The State is working on similar partnerships across the state: Lake County, Jefferson County and Warren County are some of the other counties that are participating.
As far as frequencies go the Geauga site will reuse the same freqs as the analog 800 system.
