As far as I know Geauga County is switching its present 800 analog system to a digital 800 system and will not be part of the MARCS P-25 system. The change over is suppossed to take place January 1, 2013. If this is still not the case I am sure kf8yk will correct this statement.

John,

Ohio MARCS-IP: Multi-Agency Radio Communications (P25) Trunking System, Various, Ohio - Scanner Frequencies

A load of new talkgroups were just submitted/added to the DB for Geauga Co on the MARCS-IP system.

Mike,

I believe the use of the MARCS P-25 system is only for emergency needs to communicate with Lake County etc in case of a major multi-county issue. I still think Geauga will remain on it's own stand-alone 800 digital system. Please see the last box on the bottom of the attached link.

Seems to me that if Geauga only needed talkgroups for interop with Lake, Cuyahoga....
they wouldn't need all those talkgroups that are posted. I guess we need somebody in the know to help out here, rather than our guesses.

Tg13505

Getting hits on TG13505 this morning. Unfortunately I'm also getting a lot of garble.

I did hear a partial transmission just after 11 a.m. "Eastcom to University Hts on...(garble)".

Here are the FACTS from the individual who is co-ordinating the Geauga System and has authoized me to post this.

John,

We are upgrading the analog system to digital, as part of that upgrade all of our sites will be uplifted to P25.

It has been the plan since the start to connect our site into the larger MARCS-IP system, and to form a partnership to avoid duplication of efforts and unnecessary expenditures. While our system will use the same system ID (348) as MARCS-IP, Geauga County will maintain full ownership of the sites and will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and operation of our sites. The reuse of the system ID for our sites can cause confusion over who actually is running the sites.

The benefits of the partnership between MARCS-IP and Geauga County:

- Geauga County saved about $1 million dollars on the cost of our upgrade by piggybacking on to some equipment the State had already purchased.
- Geauga County users will automatically roam to the MARCS-IP system when they leave the county, no channel changing is necessary.
- Geauga County users will continue to have free access to the Geauga County system and will not be subject to radio user fees for using the MARCS-IP system.
- The State will not have to build MARCS-IP towers in Geauga County; the Geauga sites will carry state traffic as well.
- The State will not have to pay recurring costs for T1 circuits in Geauga County; all connectivity is provided by the County microwave network.

The State is working on similar partnerships across the state: Lake County, Jefferson County and Warren County are some of the other counties that are participating.

As far as frequencies go the Geauga site will reuse the same freqs as the analog 800 system.

Feel free to share this info

John,

That backs up what we are saying. Geauga is part of the MARCS-IP system. The only difference (vs most agencies / counties) is that Geauga Co will have a much bigger hand in their county system.

Thanks for the post though. I'm in Jefferson, and I'm aware that we will be doing something similar to what Geauga has done. In fact, here in Jefferson Co will be a new MARCS zone controller (there are currently four that cover various sections of Ohio and a 5th one will be placed in this county).

So the talkgroups (and the simulcast Geauga site information) you are seeing on MARCS-IP for Geauga Co are indeed the talkgroups that Geauga will be using when they say they are switching/converting from analog to digital.

Mike

Didn't the Great Geauga County just upgrade from a Motorola Type I to a Type II system a few years ago? At that time I asked, why not go digital? I was laughed at by their admins. My turn to laugh I guess.

About 8 years ago. The upgrade to a type II system was driven by a need to add more dispatch consoles and the consoles that were in production no longer supported type I systems.

At that time I asked, why not go digital?

Geauga County would have been in the same situation as Lake County, spending significantly more 8 years ago to switch to digital only to spend more money to replace it all again now.

The analog system has given good service for 24 years with only 2 updates in that time period and if it were not for end of support issues it probably would have been kept in service longer.

Before the end of the year is the goal, a back order on base station antennas has set the schedule off by a few weeks.

Tg54524 xlecomm-7?

Wondering if anyone else heard traffic on TG54524 around 10:20 this morning. The traffic I heard was "Anyone on XLECOMM-7".

Just looking for confirmation.

After a few delays, the official start date for the usage of this system by Solon PD/FD and Chagrin FD/PD is October 3, 0900

Before the database listing for MARCS P25 Ssytem gets too large,
why don't we separate the talkgroups by service:

Fire, Police, Transportation, etc
then by alpha listing of the city (community) ....

Right now it just a mish mash of talkgroups IDs in talkgroup ID sort,
which isn't really too helpful to the viewer, initially.

It's not really an easy readable listing of the database, when you are searching for a TG ID.
Anyone's thoughts ? ...

That's tricky. MARCS-IP will grow with time to involve more than just Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga,, etc. MARCS-IP isn't exclusive to a single county. So talkgroup cateogories will have to be arranged differently than they are for county-only systems that you might see in the DB.

I'll have to discuss this with the other DB admins so we can figure out the best way to handle this as the system grows.

Under the Lake County TG's on this system, TG 27548 shows "Wick/Will PD" in the alpha tag, "Wickliffe / Willowick FD" in the description, and "Law Dispatch" in the tag. I'm assuming it is a police channel, and not an FD channel as mentioned in the description. Can anyone confirm whether its police or fire? Thanks!

why don't we separate the talkgroups by service:

For example, do you mean how the talkgroups are listed in the state of Michigan's trunked radio system? In the counties with larger listings, they're broken down by service, or community at the county level. However, agencies that cover more than one county are categorized accordingly.
