Here's what I found.

While at Micro Center this Sunday I spotted a $10 HDTV antenna that looks like a small Yagi.

Here are the details:
Make: SuperSonic
Model SC-602
Freq Range: 470 - 860 Mhz
Antenna Gain: 10db (really?)
Range: Up to 40 miles (OK if you buy the 10 db spec:cool:)

It comes with a base that's also wall mountable and a 3ft coax cable. I also bought an F to BNC adapter for a just over $1. Total cost for antenna and adapter including tax $12.

Bottom line, it's working really well for me.

Control channel data 774.83125 is being heard by MONIX Members in the northern Butler County/southern Montgomery County area.
This is, as of yet an unidentified MARCS-IP system site. Display is showing a Sysid of 348 and Site 005.

There is a 700 MHz, site planned for 3901 Guthrie Road in the Dayton area. The MARCS office has applied for an STA to place this site on the air ASAP. Here is the application submitted to the FCC:

Well...being able to focus on a single tower with this admittedly flimsy yagi has made a nice difference on 3 systems:

1. Lake County - Huge difference. Sounds like 95% clear now or better.
2. Cuyahoga P25 - improving greatly. Still trying to find the sweet spot, but garble is greatly reduced.
3. Cleveland P25 - better, still need to play, some clear, some garble.

I was switching back and forth between my RS 800 MHz duck and this yagi. Last night was one of those nights where Lake County was sounding good anyway, with the RS 800 duck, but overall this yagi is promising, especially for $10.

The trick is knowing where to point it, which sometimes isn't obvious. I am using a compass to record the bearings from North, so I know where the best spot is for each of these systems.

I see Fayette county is on this now. I heard the state was putting in one site there to put the Sheriff on, the TRBO system they bought didn't work out...so M bought it back and put them on MARCS.

Are their radios able to also talk on the existing NON-IP based network too?

TG's 59685 & 27555 Heard

This AM around 10:30 I heard allot of traffic on 59685. It sounded like an FD training session. I did make out MABAS Comand but the other units were generic like E-1 L-1 nothing I could easily ID. At the time I was on 271 South not far from the Beachwood tower. Later in the day I heard TG 27555. This also sounded like a FD training session but I did make out E-6 and and Main Street command. Other then Cleveland FD I don't know of a Engine 6 in the Cuyhoga-Lake county areas. This was about 3;00 and I was on 480 West also near the Beachwood tower.

Tonya,

TG59685: Has been active this past week with fire training exercises. During one of the first training exercises I heard traffic directed to a Lakewood engine. Note: I haven't heard any other current references to Lakewood. Prior to that this TG was used by Lakewood Fire Command during hurricane Sandy. If I were to take a guess, I'd say it's a Cuyahoga County Fire TAC TG.

TG27555: I haven't caught any traffic on this TG. But, looking at the RR database this TG sits right in the middle of the Lake County Fire TG's. Many of Lake County's western communities (Willoughby, Wickliffe, etc..) are carried on both the Lake and Cuyahoga P25 systems.

Thanks for the update. Please keep posting what you are hearing. That's the only way we can identify the (TG's) systems users.

FYI: Since the MARCS (Cuyahoga) P25 is a Simulcast system, all 13 (Cuyahoga system) towers carry the same traffic. Gone are the days where you hear traffic tied to a specific tower.

I heard some of that FD training exercise on TG 27555. Sounded like they were practicing radio communications procedures. Based on radio IDs, it was personnel from Mentor, Wickliffe, Concord, and Madison .... maybe more since I didn't constantly look at the HP-1.

As mentioned earlair TG 59685 is most likly a Lakewood FD tac channel or a Cuyahoga FD tac channel.
At around 10:30AM today there was another training session going on but this time I heard the street McKinley which is in Lakewood and Rocky River calling Lakewood comand.

I have been monitoring Lake County FD's tonight and have come across some radio id's, thought some might be interested.

Madison FD requested m/a tonight. Thompson (Geauga Co.) came. I noted id 2807005 and 2807013 for their units. Harpersfield (Ashtabula Co.) was on 4385560. This was all on Madison's talkgroup.

Kirtland FD was responding to an injury accident and Chardon (Geauga Co.) also responded. Chardon radio id was 2804xxx. Could not get the rest. This was on Kirtland's talkgroup.

Tg 40512, tg 54600

A couple of odd tg's that showed up on this system.

Tg 40512 no raidio id caught..

Tg 54600 radio id 6790134...if it follows the county id system it would be portage county.

I did not hear the traffic of either but logged as hits.

If it's MARCS-IP then it should be a probable Portage County radio; everybody is pretty finicky about making sure that the ID plan is adhered to.

Picked up a Site 1-098 today. Given my location, my beam heading and its signal strength, I"m guessing it is in Dellroy (or some other part of Carroll Co), Stark, Northern Columbiana Co or Southern Mahoning Co.

It lists Site 1-099 as a connected neighbor and Site 1-003 as a nonconnected neighbor. I added site 1-098 and 1-099 to the database. I did not add Site 1-003 since it's questionable whether it will be a site neighbor of this one. Long term, I question whether these site numbers will remain as they are now. There are plenty of pending apps for MARCS-IP 700 Mhz sites, some in the area of these sites. So I suspect once licenses are granted, frequencies may change and we may actually be able to determine the sites.

If I get some time this week I might actually find out where 098 and 099 are.

Eastcom 2 is TG13500.

The first confirmed traffic on TG59685 was Lakewood Fire Command, during Hurricane Sandy. Then nothing. Recently fire training traffic for Lakewood, Rocky River and possibly others has also been reported on TG59685. So there's only been sporadic use.

The 59XXX TG number is not inline with other known Fire Departments on the MARCS Cuyahoga P25. Most of the Fire Departments TG's start with 13XXX and a few with 14XXX.

Until we hear and identify other traffic on 59XXX TG's or someone in the know comes forward with specifics. I think it's going to remain a question.
