Hello,
I am wondering if I would be able to monitor cities like Columbus, Dayton, Toledo, and Cincinati on a Summit County, Ohio tower. Does the voice broadcast on every tower in the state or only around the area? I have also tried using the mobile site and that doesn't seem to work either. Is this possible or is anyone doing this? Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks,
Justin

No you will only be able to hear traffic from your area. The only exception would be if an out of area unit was in your area and had his home talkgroup selected on their radio. For example, if a Toledo OSP unit was in your area had his home post selected, then you would hear Toledo traffic. To carry every talkgroup on every tower in the state would require many more frequencies than the sites have.

It is very common to hear out of area traffic. Of the 1400 radio ID's I have logged on my home tower, Elyria, about 60-80% are from out of the county. 30%+ is from a county that doesn't adjoin mine. There is often a good bit of Toledo and Franklin county traffic. Both are 1.5-2 hours from me.

In your area this might be true; however, for the most part the listener will only hear what is affiliated in their local area, not all the stuff from around the state.

In general, don't expect to hear anything but your local area. If there is traffic from elsewhere, consider it a temporary bonus.
