I have a BCD996XT with MARCS programmed.I'm not sure I understand everything I know about the status bit deal. I have "Use Motorola Status Bit" checked and am in search mode. I am getting lots of hits on talk groups that are not divisible by 16.They are logging and I am hearing the traffic on the scanner. (Some sounds like control channel noise with no discerable voice though.)

I really don't want to be in Search mode and hear everything. But my question is: If I set the status bit on and have the scanner in scan mode for TGs, will I still see and hear the saved TGIDs that are in the scan list plus the derived TGIDs related to them in the same way I would in search mode but only showing the base TG? (Less all the other stuff not in the TG scan list).

???

Status bits

If you uncheck status bits, you will hear everything on the talkgroups divisible by 16 that you have programmed. The traffic on the odd talkgroups will round itself off the the closet talkgroup divisible by 16 and do it automatically. IE, traffic on OSP talkgroup 1441, 1442, &1443 will be heard on talkgroup 1440 and so on. Hope this helps.

OK I talked about this previously in http://forums.radioreference.com/oh...669-osp-aircraft-speed-enforcement-marcs.html and I guess I was/am confused.

I use FreeScan primarily and the status bit box is recommended to not be checked and that's the way I normally have been running. But then I checked the box and ran in search and of course was seeing and hearing all the odd TGIDs.

So if I understand correctly now if I don't have the status bit checked I will hear and log all the regular and odd bit associated traffic and it will only log as the base TGID. OK.

I was not certain if I was missing the odd bit traffic since there was no way I could verify the scanner operation unless I had two identical scanners each set differently to compare (which I dont ! ).

Thanks :)

Correct. With status bits unchecked, you will not be missing a thing. BTW, I don 't think the status bit checked or unchecked affects searching at all. When searching you will actually log the odd talkgroup numbers.
