If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Good Evening,

I hope this is in the correct forum/thread.

I’m seeking information about the tone frequencies, timing & programming for the MARCS tone outs for Brown County, Ohio. Specificity Mt. Orab Fire & EMS. I was provided with the tone-out frequencies (numbers) for Mt. Orab Fire/EMS. 10 & 18 for the 2-tone Fire Dispatch and 18 (long tone) for the EMS dispatch.
I’m new to programming/using a Unication G4 pager and the PPS software. I’m using the newer version of PPS (V0.4.0.30) and I’m not able to find many “help” videos/information on this specific topic of programming tone-out on a P25 system. My goal is stand-by alert mode (silent) until the department is toned-out. I have tried several different combinations of programming my TG (8501) with a Subgroup (E-2) and using the Tone Alert Feature (E-7) without success. I'm sure that I have missed a step or not set something correctly.

Can anyone either provide some direction on this programming or a public source that a novice would find helpful using this newer version of PPS?

Thanks for your help & understanding.

Sounds like someone gave you console codes instead of the actual tone frequency. Two tone paging would be for example 561.1 / 1122.5

That’s what you need for it to work.

Actually those might be the Unication tone numbers. Tone 10 is 546.9 to 578.1 hz, and tone 18 is 796.9 to 828.1 hz.

My guess is that the tone frequencies he actually needs are 553.9 and 810.2 hz.

Update: HA, I WAS RIGHT! Per the Brown County Wiki page (amazing what you can find if you actually look for it), Mt Orab's tones are 553.9/810.2 (probably 1 second/3 second) for fire, and 810.2 (probably 8 second) for EMS.

To the OP - you need to set those up as two separate alerts in your sub-group list.

Is it safe to assume that the tone frequencies are the same for VHF (154.190) and the MARCS P25 system? I'm trying the EMS tone now without any luck. Maybe I'm doing the programming wrong. Is there a good "go-by" or instruction for setting up tone-out on trunking P25 systems? Any help (or link) would be appreciated.

If they sound the same on P25 and VHF they probably are. However, if the tones aren't perfectly clean on P25 it won't work there and you'll be limited to VHF.

Configuring QC2 on Unication:

If you're using the newest PPS these instructions might be a tad off, but it's close enough.
