Seems to be a dilemma for me. I did search and found some hits with problems with FL and scanning with the same error but no solution. Any ideas? I have to be missing something.
I am in NJ close to the beach. I wanted to monitor the certain marine frequencies. I tried a couple different things and nothing seems to be coming through.
In Sentinel I created a FL for just the Marine Freq (Maritime Operations-Marine VHF 1A-88A). I set certain freqs to avoids as I do not want to listen to them. I also enable the Service types for the freqs I want to listen to (Transportation and Federal).
I checked Use Location Control for the FL and it is on. I also tried it off and the same thing occurs. I am also on the most recent FW, SW and RR DB versions.
I presume this is also a problem with scanning the full db but can't confirm.
If I try to enable just that FL (no full database) I receive the error "Scan Mode. Nothing to Scan"

Looks like I did. FL Quick Key is 1 as is the FL Number Tag. I remember starting this when I first got it but then got confused and left it. Looks like I also started assigning Number Tags to each Frequency (Looks like Marine Channel number).
So, is this what is preventing it from finding channels to scan?
I thought those QK were optional?

Check your "Profile" to make for sure you have your marine FL set to ON for both "Monitor and Download".

Also, check that the marine "Service Type" is turned ON.

In Sentinel Monitor is set to off for the Marine FL. Download is On. I manually turn it on from the 436. I do that from
Set Scan Selection > Set Lists to Monitor > Marine > On
Isn't that the same thing?
There is no "marine" service type. Looking in Sentinel, there are 2 service types for these frequencies I want to listen to - "Transportation" and "Federal". Those 2 are enabled

You can manually change things in the scanner directly but if it is different from what is in Sentinel then Sentinel will over-write your manual changes to what ever is in Sentinel the next time you write to your scanner using Sentinel (like the Monday Database update).

This has gotten me a couple of times.

New FL entries will default to "Custom 1" "Service Type" so make for sure that has been check ON in your "Profile".

I assumed that "Marine Service Type" existed, I should have checked that out before posting, sorry.

Quick Keys are indeed optional. However if you choose to use them, they have to be turned on in order to receive the "stuff" associated with them.

A while back I created a Favorites List for marine channels, importing them from the master database. They came in as either "Other" or "Federal" on the Service Types. (Federal would be the Coast Guard channels).

You could try programming an active weather service frequency in your Favorites List for diagnostic purposes (assigning the Service Type to be whatever is prevalent in that FL).

If you do not receive the weather broadcast, that tells you something is wrong overall (download or monitor status, Quick Keys, etc.) If it does "hit" on weather, that suggests all is well with the FL and you can double press the Avoid button to lock out the channel until you modify the FL again.

I took the easy way out. I deleted the FL and recreated it. All works as expected now. So it was something to do with the Quick Keys.
The problem with this x36 is if you don't use and program it all the time it is just too complex.
Lucky for me I travel all over the country all the time and simply use the scan full db and use the puck gps.
I don't "need" all those features most people would use if you are only in a few different places.
Thanks for the answer to my problem
