Will my pro 197 pick up the local stuff here? I'm asking for a friend

After checking the database, I think your friend might be in luck.

Have them try the following two frequencies in regular FM mode and report back whether or not they hear traffic.

154.785
154.130

I will try and do this remotely for them. I have no idea what FM mode is. I have always used psredit to download/upload to the scanner. Is FM mode different?

I'm not familiar with that particular radio, but generally when you are entering a frequency you should have an option to choose AM, FM or digital.

When in doubt, just punch in the freq and see what happens.
Chances are it might set FM as the default mode.

Oh crap, let me redo this. He is wanting to buy a pro 197 and use there. He doesnt have it yet. Sorry for the confusion,i misunderstood him.

No prob... If they aren't in any danger of 'upgrading' to a digital system, he could pick up the local stuff with a rather inexpensive, and easy to program model.

Just a thought.
