Just for information purposes but has anyone else noticed that the Marion County Trunk P25 system is totally inoperative at times? I have noticed it in the early morning hours on occasion. There will be several hours of zero activity and then around 7 t0 9AM everything starts working. During this time the other 800MHZ trunk systems in my range are working OK, i.e., Citrus county and Ocala City with their new P25 system. Just curious.

This is just a wild guess. There are only 3 control channels listed in the RR database. Many (most?) Motorola systems have 4. There might be another control channel that is not in the database and they might switch to it during those hours. When it goes dead, try searching for an unlisted control channel.

Good thought Dick. I'll give it a try next time I encounter the problem.

Thanks, Gary S

Another thought. When it goes dead, scan in MANual mode and see if you hear anything.

What I have found is that there is always traffic at 852.2250 which is not listed on the current Marion County list but is listed on an old list that I have dated June 2010 so it looks like your hunch is correct.

Marion County as well as Ocala have begun using CAD ( computer aided dispatch ) and it's more noticeable lately. As morning passes, and the day gets busy, you will see them use the radio more often. To my knoweledge, the MC trunk system has not changed... and the new Ocala trunk system is correct, as listed in the database.

I have just begun a system decode check up for Marion's trunk system using Pro96com (a trunk system decoding software) and the following 9 (nine) frequencies are decoded, and make up the county radio system... check them against what you have in your scanner.

Marion System
851.5875 V
851.7500 V
851.8750 V
852.1250 V
852.2500 V
852.3750 V
852.7500 A
852.8750 A
853.2500 CONTROL CHANNEL

The Ocala trunk system I decoded today has a total of 10 (ten) frequencies, and make up the City radio system. Here is the current Ocala configuration, check them against what you have in your scanner.

Ocala System
854.9625 IV (transmits system ID information)
856.2125 V
857.2125 V
857.7125 V
857.9375 V
858.2125 A
858.9375 V
859.2125 A
859.5375 AV
859.9375 CONTROL CHANNEL

You may find the FCC database interesting. It lists 3 trunk system licenses for Marion county; WQDH497, WQLG612 and WQLG613. They have 19, 16 and 15 freqs. listed at 5, 7 and 2 sites.

those freq's reflect active use prior to rebanding... WQDH497 was activated in 2005, and WQLG612 was active 2010. WQLG613 was a granted license for the county to add the two additional tower transmitter sites for Ft McCoy and Dunnellon some time ago. I usually wont rely on the FCC database to be up to date, I have found descrepencies there before.

Also note, in the current FCC database, that the Ocala trunk system listed for OCALA WPFX943 was activated Jan 2002 and we all know that Ocala is operating on the new P25 digital trunk system as of a few months ago. After searching the FCC site, this 2002 dated system for Ocala is the only one that comes up.
