Who knows why and they decided to go encrypted and block everything insted of leaving the dispatch unencrypted. They thruway transparency out the window and stumped on it that goes tor Ocala and Marion county both hopefully they make it right one day . They want the public’s help but they leave the public in the dark. Not being able to listen to the scanner there a better solution then to encrypted all channels
most likely? FEDERAL GRANT MONEY required that they purchase encryption capable hardware. Then - factor in a good salesman who says "hey, you know those scanner apps that criminals use? I can fix that for you!" --- citizens "right to listen" never even enters the discussion. I am unaware of ANY Florida system that has reverted back to clear voice after throwing the ENC switch.....
I distinctly remember when OC 46C came online and the old 1F36 (SmartZone analog) went to sleep. The news agencies (ALL OF THEM) complained LOUDLY - and ON THE AIR - about their lack of ability to listen. Guess what they got? Access to the encrypted dispatch (only) channels.
then - the news stories stopped. that's how it works.
