I'm camping up near Marion this weekend and wondering if the freqs. in the McDowell County database are accurate. I've loaded the freqs for McDowell county as well as marion and old fort pd's.

If anyone has any suggestions for the routine freqs as well as anything else interesting in the area I'd appreciate it.

Thanks in advance,

I have the mcdowell sheriff and local marion pd programmed into my radio and listen to them on occassin. As of a week or two ago, the freqs were correct. Old Fort is a little far for me to want to monitor.:D

Scott,

According to what I found is that McDowell County Ems is now on this freq:

158.775 Ems Disp.
155.040 Fire Disp.
155.280 Rescue Disp.

Hope this helps

Thanks guys, I appreciate it.

I actually was up there two weeks ago over the weekend. I don't have my list with me but what I programmed seemed to be accurate and that was all from the database here at RR.

Thanks again.

A couple of errors in the RR database, and a couple of comments ...

Marion PD on 153.995 uses a tone of 103.5 Hz on the repeater output, rather than 167.9 Hz.

It also looks like the two Marion PD channels have the input frequencies switched (there's less than 200 kHz spacing between the input and output on the second channel).

The Headstart program repeater has a tone of 88.5 on the repeater output, rather than 167.9 Hz.

I have to wonder if someone was hearing neighboring Cleveland County when they logged 154.280 / 167.9 or 155.475 / 167.9 ?

I'm also curious what tone is being used on 159.000 MHz, which is the input to 154.935 ? If the input tone is also 167.9 Hz., this channel would make a nice repeater loop with Va State Police channel 1 at Richmond during enhancements. They are 154.935 / 167.9 in and 159.000 / 167.9 out. During enhanced conditions, radio users on either the VaSP or McDowell Co repeater could potentially key up both repeaters.

155.010 is the McDowell sherriff's dept. freq that I hear the most. They also have 155.475 listed on this site but I don't think I've ever heard anything from there.

155.475 is the national law enforcement simplex call channel and most of the counties in NC have licenses for it, but seldom is any traffic heard on it.

Cleveland Co Sheriffs have 155.475 MHz, with a transmit tone of 167.9 Hz, programmed as their channel 3. They use it often for unit-to-unit communications.

I have logged an unidentified law enforcement agency in the Caldwell County area using 155.475 with a tone of 151.4 Hz.

NCHP has 155.475 - programmed as carrier squelch rather than 131.8 Hz, as some sources show - as their channel 5 in the high band vehicle radios. The NCHP policy is that troopers can only use 155.475 for emergency communications.

Hey Jeff, I'm going to be in Cleveland Co more now, how about submitting your info to the RR database? It's not listed there.

All the Maxtracs and HT1000s we've programmed on 155.475 in Troop D have TX tone as 131.8 and RX as csq. Haven't seen any radios so far in transfers from other troops without TX tone on Ch 5. The CTCSS is supposed to be csq on RX anyway according to the mutual aid guidelines, with TX tone locally optional for those agencies that use ID gear. Those agencies use the PL + MDC to distinguish their units on mutual aid channels where other depts may have the same MDC ID but different PL. There may be no PL function in the base station RX but the ID reader uses the PL for the logging. They can also use the repeater access MDC burst instead of the PL if necessary, or use all three. So many options, so little time.

Thanks, WX, for the correction ... I've never had the opportunity to actually hear an NCHP unit on 155.475 MHz. The folks at Newton Radio Shop used to have a copy of the radio programming taped above the work bench, and I never considered that they used anything other that carrier squelch in and out.

Wasn't exactly a correction, just differences from shop to shop, and those usually depend on what combo of equipment is installed in the particular cars. For instance, the Tait portable/repeater combos attached to a Syntor 9000E probably don't have TX PL on the 154.920 output from the repeater, so when the Tait portable is replaced by the HT1000, the Jedi has to be csq on channel 1 or the ABC toggle switch has to be programmed for PL disable in one of the positions. For VRS equipped Syntors, the same may or may not apply, depending on how the Syntor repeater unit is set up. For those with the Vertex repeater, the HT1000 is programmed with PL in and out on Ch 1.

Whether or not the NLEMA channel is programmed with PL on the TX side is pretty much up to the individual shop and even further, the individual doing the programming. We've got examples that vary from unit to unit, county to county, depending on whatever else is to go into the Jedi. In counties where the sheriff's dept is on VHF high band, those channels may also be included, so the codeplug list varies.

Either way, thanks, WX. Your information might come in handy some day if I log someone using 155.475 / 131.8 Hz. I would have previously dismissed it from being NCHP.

Hey, Grog. I've got alot of information, covering about half the counties in NC, SC and Ga (and some Fla and Va) that I'd love to share with RadioReference. The problem is "time," and until I have enough time to keep my own logs up-to-date, it's unwise to commit to another project.

I don't have much more to offer regarding Cleveland Co, besides what's on RR, but here's some corrections / additions to the RR information:

155.68500 156.10500 KIC387 RM 167.9 PL Cleveland Co. Sheriff FM
--- correct tone is DPL 131

42.52000 42.52000 KA4407 173.8 PL State Highway Patrol Base (Crosspatched to Shelby TRS) FM
--- I have not heard this crosspatched, and was told it wasn't; can anyone confirm ?

154.95000 154.95000 KIC394 MF 167.9 PL Kings Mountain Fire FM
--- the frequency is a typo; the correct frequency is 153.950 MHz

155.34000 155.34000 KDW579 BM 167.9 PL Cleveland Med Center
--- correct tone is DPL 132

155.34000 155.34000 KDW579 BM 167.9 PL Kings Mountain Hospital
--- correct tone is DPL 132

154.08500 158.86500 KGR376 RM Cleveland Co. Schools FM
--- tone is 179.9 / school maintenance

153.98000 153.98000 WNHT618 BM County Government FM
--- tone is 167.9

154.05500 154.05500 KRY953 BM Shelby City Gov. FM
--- tone is / was 173.8; used to be public works, which I believe is now using Shelby 800 trunked system; it sounds like Travelers Rest, S.C. is putting an annoying AVL signal on this frequency that is heard all along the Hwy 74 corridor in Cleveland Co

My info also says the SHP low band is not patched to the 800 system in Cleveland, and this may be because the state's system is closer to being on line in that area and they didn't bother to do so in light of the shorter timetable. And this may also be mere flatulence since the only thing consistent about the state's project timetable is its inconsistency.
