Alright you VHFers, time to post your HF loggings. Now, don't just post a big list of frequencies that you've copied off the web, post what you've HEARD!

Right now (and heard in the car) -
12,359khz USB Civilian maritime simplex freq. Am hearing lots of action from the Caribbean area.

Several HF-DSC Distress-Relays resulted from one idiot tonight (MV New Nikki, no callsign, undesignated distress, position all 9's. One Canadian CG vessel (Sir Walter Raleigh, CGUM, also relayed over 2187.5 DSC.

Sector New York briefly worked a vessel, probably a fisherman on 2182 KHz.

Canadian Coast Guard Radios [Halifax, St Anthony, Sidney and St John] with announcements on 2182 then shift to 2598 for continuous marine broadcasts.

Vessel Arcturas (loud and clear) working CG Radio Sidney, who shifted to 2582/2006 (ship/shore duplex).

Just a sample from this evening.

No problem.

Tonight's false distress/mayday call was courtesy of the offshore service vessel GULF DIVER V, who sent a non-designated distress with no lat/lon at about 0331Z 20DEC 08. USCG Sector St Petersburg was the first coast station to acknowledge the distress on 2187.5 (DSC). CAMSLANT via New Orleans transmitters replied next, followed by CAMSPAC's San Francisco transmitter. Other stations and some vessels also relayed. Quite a ruckus from some unqualified person experimenting with equipment they apparently were not qualified to operate (GMDSS watchkeeping/SOLAS radios).

Details of the Gulf Diver V can be seen at:

Follow-on:
An AIS screenshot attachment shows the locaiton of the GULF DIVER V even though her lat/lon was not sent as part of the required information in any distress-call. She is at 29-33N 88-39W, or about 50mi South of Pacagula MS and 40 miles East of Venice LA.
