.....EHS is not going encrypted, nor is the fire department. The article in the CB Post was poorly written. CBRM Police may be going encrypted but EHS and Fire are not. Encryption is EXTREMELY cost prohibitive. Dont stress...still lots to listen to.

With the Police service going Encrypted and using the same system and same dispatch centre, wouldn't it make sense for the Fire Service to encrypt as well?

In any event my pro 96 isn't cutting it anymore..

You dont have to worry about it. There is no need to Encrypt fire departments. They do not have conversations sensitive enough to justify the extreme cost of encryption. Those encryption keys are often changed on a regular basis to keep those trying to "break it" at bay which costs time and money everytime its done.

As for Island EMS....I cant see it. They also do not have anything sensitive to transmit. EHS is not going encrypted and the idea is to be able to speak with each other between provinces and when each other is in the other province. This couldnt be done if one was using Encryption and the other wassnt. Again...VERY cost prohibitive.

I'm in doubt about the CBRPS going encrypted. Not a lot of scanner nuts around here with the latest and greatest. They would knock out more than 80 percent of listeners if they just moved to a trunked system. I'm serious, there are A LOT of old Realistic scanners out there in the CBRM. When they move to digital, atleast 95 percent of the people in the CBRM won't be able to hear. I've heard talk of them moving to digital before on the radio, but never any mention of encryption.

They have had TMR equipment onboard for quite some time now. I have heard transmissions from Units in East Division several times so it appears as though it has been in stages. They said two years ago that it would cost 12 million by the time it was completed and they have been allowing budget dollars each year. In any event we will low one way or another if they do choose to encrypt or not.

CBRM Implementation

Recall that June 1, 2015 is the shutdown date of TMR1. Most CBRM operations involve conventional VHF gear at the moment....so a Sept implementation is entirely possible....

September? Didn't I read somewhere migration of the TMR2 (including dispatch equipment) is to be completed by June 1, or was Cape Breton Police late to jump on the bandwagon?

Hi, ive been noticing today that the Halifax Fire Pager tone and page has been coming over the new HRF Dispatch talkgroup on the P25 system. Just wondering if anyone else noticed it and wondering if maybe their pagings will be used there?
Sounds better than the old analog system.

Hmm.. I'm hearing that too.... different

Edit:
It would appear the pager tests (not the zone ones mind you) are going out on that talkgroup too. That'll get pretty annoying.

Just a quick update...

I've been talking with Pat Kelly from PEI Public Safety, and he says they are still trying to determine the best locations for the 9 new sites, so I wouldn't expect new frequencies to show up for awhile. I asked him if the Municipal Police Departments will be joining the system, and he said it is expected they will, but he couldn't go into details as they were still in negotiations.

As for the name of the new system, it will still be called Provincial Integrated Communications System, but referred to as PICS2.

I expect this is only temporary. They would have a bunch of patches created so that both TMR 1 & 2 systems can be used at the same time. Once the TMR 1 system is gone, things will get more normal again.

Original plan was to have everyone switched over by June 1st. Not sure if that changed.

Unconfirmed, but looks like they are aiming for migration to be completed by December 1st. I'm sure frequencies will start popping up within the next month or 2, and testing will begin. Have not heard if Bell Aliant has started installing the new equipment or even if they have finalized the new tower locations. Waiting to hear back from Public Safety. Will keep you updated.
