This seems like progress and a jump to Project25 sounds great from a emcomm perspective. How does this make the scanner crowd feel?

Having all users on the same system will indeed save many headaches. The only downside is all RCMP and Police agencies going encrypted. Will miss listening to them.

Apparently CBRPS have jumped onto the new system today. I have setup a wildcard in my scanlist on psr800. I have this odd things going on, I am locked on the wildcard waiting and listening. I hear a little chatter from ehs cb1 and so on, then I get this pulsing of the audio, just silence, flickering the site frequency at me. Then I open the squelch right up and still keeps pulsing like someone is continually keying up. Getting a couple of radio id's but no TGID. It's almost like when scanning mototrbo with a regular scanner. odd. I mean, they probably are encrypted, but this is not how any encrypted sys I've monitored ever sounded.

I've been getting encryption chatter on that 35800 you mentioned as well as 35801 and 35802. I'm assuming these are the cbrps talk groups

Looks like they did exactly what many said they would not do....Full encryption for their estimated 12 million dollar upgrade.

In other words. In regards to their level of encryption .. "It's one and done"..

So, hate to sound stund.. lol But if I had the proper scanner, I still wouldn't be able to monitor the police? Or I would need to find out the monthly encryption?
They kicked Fire Dep's off TMR 2 as soon as they put the police on, not sure why.

Short of stealing a PD radio, there is nothing you can do to monitor them at this point, and even then, once they know a radio has been compromised, the encryption key will be changed. There is no scanner on the market that can decode the encryption short of something the NSA or CISIS might have.

As for them "kicking the FD" off TMR 2, I am not sure what you mean. If anything you should be hearing more FDs on TMR 2 as all the Volunteer Depts were added and even CBRM Fire was recently added and is / will be using the same Fleetmap of Talkgroups that the volunteers are using. Make sure you have them plugged into your scanner correctly. You will still need a digital scanner to monitor the VFD Talkgroups but paging for such for Fire I think is still on VHF.

Ok, so I need to talk to the chief.. tell him to loan me a radio and I will charge $4.99 a month for an app that Cape Bretoners can listen to the police. LoL

on a serious not, I am a volunteer firefighter in the CBRM and we were using TMR2 for weeks, there seemed to be bugs with what ever way they were paging us. It definitely sounded different. . But when the CBRPS went to tmr2, they told us to stop using it immediately. Not sure if that changed over the last week or two or not. Police also changed there vehicle call signs, not that it matters I guess.. But no more 221 or 321 etc Think it's like C1242 or N1235 which I think is C=Central or N=North and the actual fleet number on each car.

PS Thank you for the quick response, I was getting mixed information.

That encryption will never be broken so the days of listening to CBRPS is long gone and never to return

I understand now, thank you? So would this scanner let me hear Fire and EHS? The Whistler WS1095 is a desktop/mobile multi-system adaptive Digital tracking trunking scanner with Motorola P25 Phase I, X2-TDMA and Phase II capabilities. It sounds like it should, but it's not cheap, so I want to make sure lol

Any P25 phase 1 scanner, that also includes 700MHz, will work. I have no idea if the system will go to phase 2.
