Currently EHS Life Flight and DNR helicopters are the only users remaining on TMR1, as aircraft were not permitted to use the 700 MHz band in Canada. Keeping a full system online for only two users would be very costly.

Recently, Industry Canada has approved EHS Life Flight to use the 700 MHz band. They will be fully migrating to TMR2 by the end of the month.

I'm not sure where DNR air division stands, but I'm assuming they were approved as well.

New site added in the City of Summerside. S115, 771.85625, CFA296.

I've also updated all 16 sites on PEI to 15 miles. They were previously set to 10 miles. If anyone has a scanner with the GPS feature and would like this changed, please let me know. According to IC, all sites have a 50 km (31 mile) radius. Not sure if this is accurate.

Multiple reports suggest Charlottetown Fire Department will be migrating to PICS2 (PEI's portion of MPSRN). The exact date of the migration is unknown, as they are still waiting for the budget for the new radios to be approved. The department will continue to be paged on VHF, however their frequencies will be changing. 2 new frequencies can already be found on IC, labelled as "VHF paging". All comms will take place on PICS2, similar to Borden and Kinkora Fire Departments.

More information/talkgroups will be added as more info becomes available.

I've updated the ranges on all PEI sites. Most are set at 10 miles, but a few are set at 8 miles such as Tignish, Alma, Mt. Pleasant, Charlottetown and Elmira.

If these values need to be changed on any sites, please let me know.

I see that Saint John is now showing as a talkgroup in MPSRN but no data yet. Any ETA on when and what will be populated? I'm assuming SJP will be going fully encrypted.

They were originally scheduled to join before the end of 2016, but I'm guessing that timeline has since changed. Information will be added as it becomes available, not ETA yet.

Very good chance SJP will be encrypted, but nobody knows for sure until they get the new radios.

Curious - Moncton Fire

I can still hear Moncton Fire through broadcastify however no longer through my trunk tracker scanner.

Has talk group changed? Confused as to why I can still hear MFD online but not in my Unidentified BCT8 as I did before. Any advice on what I have to do, including buying new gear, new frequencies would be helpful. Thanks!

Moncton Fire has migrated to the 700mhz NBTMR System. It is a digital P25 system that ANB, DOT, DNR and many others have or are planning on moving too. Maritime wide system, same as PEI and NS

Your BCT8 will not monitor it.

You need some new gear that is both digital and covers 700mhz. They are pretty widely available

The new freqs for the MPSRN are available in the database. http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=7924

you have some programming to do after you get your new scanner!

Ok. I understand the new system is up and running and my older gear needs to be updated. Here's the big question my friends: what scanner do I need to buy that will enable me to listen? Time for an upgrade anyways. Looking forward to your replies.

I'm here a lot
WS 1065 or a BCD996XT at a minimum for a base/mobile. Used ones can be found at a decent price.

SJP still isn't encrypted as of yet and they are fully utilizing the new MPSRN. I listen every week when I am down there. Is it possible they may not encrypt at all?

Thumbs up to the WS1065, highly recommend it and it pulls in signals really well and programs easy with PSR500Edit. Really like this scanner and much better than my old PSR800.

LMR Communications in Lunenburg, NS sell them and send them already programmed. Good price as well.

Saint John Police and Fire are still on their 800 MHz analog system. They only recently put the funds aside in their budget for the upgrade. They haven't even received the new radios yet.
